I have electron and it is surprising just how many places won't take it. You're much better off with solo.

solo is better, but really both solo and electron are pretty rubbish. You should try get a standard visa debit card instead, or equavelant
But to get a standard visa, I believe you have to have a certain amount of money going into your bank like at least 100 a week - or something like that.

I would go for a standard VISA or MASTERCARD debit card and avoid solo and visa electron. So many people see them as debit cards but they don't offer the same benefits e.g you couldn't hire a car with either an electron or solo card! |

I'd go with Solo, it's widely accepted and causes less confusion as some people confuse Visa Electron with Credit Cards. |

both are available to people under 18 so dont expect lots of places to take them, especially over the phone. That being said I use my electron all over places like tescos etc.
both of these are cards for people who cant get real visa debit cards, so given the choice go for a real one, if you havent got that option it will probably make little difference to you. |

I found that Solo was accepted in Spain but Visa Electron wasn't, that may have changed since. In the UK I have had difficulty with Visa Electron. Better to try to get your card upgraded to a standard Visa debit card if possible. |

I had a Solo from the age of 16, there weren't many perks or anything and the bank - HSBC- were not at all in a hurry to replace it when i turned 18. The problem with Solo is that some large stores dont accept it eg Boots. Otherwise it was fine! |
