bank of america hands down!!! take it from me. they have a good program for students with visa checking savings-the whole package.
i fuked up and got a shitload of credit cards everywere swiped my cards everywere. i was doing okay until i quit my job and the money i had saved i had to use on emergencies so i didnt end up paying my bills. everywere they sent me to collection and banks and cards shut me down. bank of america still hangs in there for me. i owe 600 on the credit card and if i were to pay it tommorrow i will be okay. =] they have 0% apr! |

Shop around for the best deal. Start with your own bank.
What is good for me may be rubbish for you. Nothing beats legwork in sorting out the best deal.
(I wouldn't do Capital One, or any other card that advertises heavily. Most of them are bottom feeders with high rates and fees, regardless of what the adverts claim.) |

If you don't want a credit card yet but want to build your credit, just get a small loan for 24 months and pay it back in 12. By then, you should be getting a lot of offers for credit cards. I only have 1 major credit card because I can use it anywhere. Do not fall for the special offers because it's just a front to get you in trouble later. |

If you plan to pay off the full amount each month, then it does not matter which credit card.
You can have a read here for tips though http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cards |

get 1 from cap one, its the easiest to get, but only take £250-£500, and use it for petrol or a small shop, pay it off at the end of each month tho |

best place to start is your own bank, why? because they can see how healthy you bank account has been and are more likely to give you a credit card, as your a student you may be able to get your banks student credit card which is guaranteed and has a lower limit for emergencies. it will still build your credit rating up |
