Someone just called me from the hospital saying that .....?
if I don't send to them 6 months worth of monthly payments and give them my account info they will ruin my credit. Is that true? I have been sending payments every month. The account has not gone to any collection agency. she wanted me to send her written postdated checks, but I know then when you do that they go ahead and cash them anyways.

It could be a scam, someone probably trying to steal your Identity, check out their credentials before you give out any info

A hospital will never ask for your account info over the phone, they will do it in a letter. If you have been sending monthly payments, they should be OK with it. Call the billing department yourself and ask someone there about it, someone may have been trying to scam you.

I doubt that was really the hospital who called. It may have been someone who was trying to scam you.

Call the hospital yourself and talk to their billing department. Ask them if they were really the ones calling you and, if so, can they explain why they are no longer willing to accept your regular payments if they are being made on time.

If you're making your monthly payments on time, they shouldn't report you to the credit bureaus, but that won't stop them from doing so. I am assuming that the monthly installment plan on which you are paying is sort of a favor they're doing for you, since most hospitals don't accept post-dated checks or monthly payments for their services. You are right not to send her the post-dated checks, because first of all it's technically illegal to write post-dated checks, and secondly, you're right, post-dated checks tend to get deposited early, causing the person's bank account to go into severe overdraft. That has happened to me more times than I'd like to count, and finally I decided never again!!

I would ask to speak to this woman's manager if I were you. She can't possibly be the main authority in the hospital's accounts payable department. Se if you can speak to her supervisor, explain your situation, and get an actualy written agreement on paper about the monthly payments. In case they ever do actually report negatively to the bureaus, you can use the written agreement as proof to dispute the negative stuff they report for you.

Hospitals pull this stunt a lot...talk to a lawyer to learn your rights...don't trust advice on Yahoo!

As long as you are making payments its not going to ruin your credit. It sounds like a scam. I would never give a post dated checks. that is crazy that they even told you to do that. It sounds fishy. Call the billing dept. at the hospital and tell them what happened.

no worries....if you are sending them monthly payments, there is nothing they can do. i was in the same situation.

bdancer222
First, do you have an actual written agreement with the hospital for this payment plan? If so, call the hospital and why they are not honoring this agreement any longer.

It sounds like the hospital may have turned the account over to a collection agency. Absolutely do not give them account info or send postdated checks.

Well you must owe them money for you vist or someting call them to see whats up

As long as you are sending in those monthly payments, there is nothing they can do. Did you get the name of the person? I would call the hospital and ask for the person's supervisor. The hospital shouldn't be calling you with harassing phone calls especially since you are sending in payments.

No, you don't have to do that she is trying to strong arm you as long as the account is with the hospital and your making payments each month your ok she is only trying to have post dates on file so that she will not have to continue to call you on a monthly basis and thats her job thats what she is required to do

Stuck in the middle of nowhere
If payments have already been arranged I would tell them to go to hell. If you haven't made the payment arrangements and have just been sending the money on your own I would call and work it out.

I would call the hospital back and tell them what happened and ask them if the call was legitimate. If it was legitimate then tell them that you are not comfortable with giving them post dated checks and that you will make payments over the next six months by certified check (You get those at your bank for a small fee.) Or, another option is to get a charge card and use the card to pay off the hospital debt completely and then pay the credit card off in six payments. That way it gets the hospital off your back.

If it turns out not be legitimate then report the scam to the hospital, your local police and local news agencies.

I had some one call saying they were from a doctor's office demanding payment for a bill. I always pay cash for all services and I do not have any credit cards nor any unpaid debts so I was pretty sure it was a scam. The voice mail message was garbled so that I could not understand the name of the doctor who I supposedly owed money to. So, I simply called all of my doctors to see if there were any outstanding balances. Then I called all my past doctors to see if I had any outstanding ballances with them. I was paid up to date with all of my doctors so I knew it was a scam.

It's a scam. If anyone calls you for personal information give it to them, but make sure it's all incorrect. Wrong name, address, account numbers and so on. Life is way too short to have to worry about scammers learn to have some fun at their expense.

Sounds like a scam. Barely ANYBODY accepts postdated checks these days.

First of all, post dating checks is illegal. People do it all the time, but no one is under an obligation to wait to cash them. The date on the check is your proof of when it was written. Then when the bank cashes it that creates a time line for each check.

Just tell her there is no difference between sending a check each month and post dating checks and that you would prefer to send the payment each month.

yeah its true you better pay up
