Report it! Call the company and cancel it. Tell them the situation. Go to your local police station with the card and file a report, just incase your identity have been stolen to use for other cards. If not, and their are other cards etc out there, you will have a he-ll of a time trying to prove that it wasn't you who made those purchases.

yes...you can request the signature that was placed on the application. I had a moment like that were an ex new all my info and he signed me up for everything he can thing of..it totally screwed up my credit and I wasn't able to catch him because the signature was so close to my own. In this case you should call the cops

Germs
call the police

UPESKYMO
You need to call the company that you got the card from first and cancel that card. Then you need to call the local police. Good lord things are getting bad out there. I wanted to order things off of Amazon for the Christmas season, but I don't like the idea of using my credit card on-line. Even though it is a locked site, you never know who is watching. Also watch when you get applications in the mail for credit cards. Shred that application if you are not going to use it. Also watch you receipts from the store, you never know there either. I have thought about buying some kind of insurance against the problem of credit card theft, but I think in today's society we are over insured. But if you are interested there is one insurance that Paul Harvey advertises on the Radio. I can't remember the name of it off hand, but maybe if you plug in Paul Harvey's name on the computer, you just may find it. I wish you so much luck with your problem, and that things turn out all right for you.

You need to call the credit card company immeditately. Explain to them that you didn't open this account. Then call your local credit bureau. I'm confused though.... if someone had opened an account in your name, then they probably wouldn't have had the card sent to your address. Verify all of the info with the credit card company, report the fraud to them & then contact your local credit bureau. The credit bureau will tell you what to do.

Call the credit card company at once and let them know that you have not requested a card and think someone else might have. However , why was it sent to you? You will find that credit card companies will send a card that looks like a real card and you have to call to activate it. So get on the phone now before ever who used your name does, and get things taken care of.

Chubbybuddy
Call the credit card company or SOMEBODY! mabey someone screwed up. YES DEFINETLY CALL SOMEBODY NOW!

Call the credit card company and tell them that someone opened the card under your name and you didn't authorize it. Also, put a Fraud Alert on your credit report, so that if someone tries to open another card, you will be notified. You can do the alert on either:

Mel, you need to call the number on the back of the card and ask to speak to their Freud person. The police can't help you with this tell it is a problem after the fact.

You can contact your local credit bureaus and let them know also.

A letter to your Attorney's Generals Office in your home State is good too.

yes they will, and destroy the card, best by fire

If you have the date of inquiry of the open date of the credit card the c.c. company should be able to trace the application for the card based on the date of the inquiry. To cancel the credit card will not affect you at all. The application will tell you who applied and/or were the application came from if done online the ip address of the computer. Good Luck

jojo
Inform the credit card company rightaway.Look up the phone directory for the 24 hotline ( which begins with1800 ) or use Google to search for the Bank website and you'll be able to find the telephone number and email address.Ask the bank how you can in future prevent other people from applying for creditcards under your name.

heyteach
Tricky. Maybe they wanted to steal from your mailbox or such so they can get cash advances or such and run up a bill for you. I don't think YOU can find out who did anything. Lots of this stuff going on. The company SHOULD cancel the card, but I wonder what false info was included to get the card you didn't apply for, so it probably won't be simple.

Here's some contact info for the credit bureaus because this is bad news for you:

A victim is referred to the credit reporting agencies "Fraud Victim Assistance Department" when their identification has been lost or stolen. This does not include those circumstances where just a single card has been stolen, in which case the credit bureau cannot help. They are primarily concerned with those situations where enough I.D. has been lost to create a potential application fraud problem.

I got the above from here:

Might want to read the whole article.

Good luck!

Credit cards have become a necessity in society nowadays, you can't go anywhere without having to use one. That's why it's imperative to maintain a good<!--credit rating and use your credit card smart. Lots of credit card related question been asked here and yours just another one. Check it out this website, hope it helps.

After all, without a credit card, it's harder to live, and especially hard to shop online. Lots of credit card related-->questions are often being asked and yours is just another one.

Call the company, give them CRAP about their crappy security, make a big stink and threaten to sue for all your time. This is ridiculous! How the hell did they allow some fraud to open a credit account under your name. Negligence!!! Threaten to bring them to court, give their company a bad name! Sorry to hear that trouble of yours. Been there, they'll get scared when you get angry with them!!

trynhelp
contact the police you could be a victim of fraud and you know what that means you will be questioned about the card do yourself a favour and contact the police
