Someone did this to me recently, they went into the carphone warehouse and got 2 phones at my address, using my surname but a different first name. I phoned carphone warehouse, orange and t-mobile and explained what had happened and they passed it on to their fraud department. I know it is an offence to open something not addressed to you but I've been hit by identity fraud at least 4 times so I knew straight way what this was!
I've had no comeback from any of it and neither should you. Anything that comes through from now on, cross out the name and write 'not known at this address' on the envelope and repost it.
If these companies are stupid enough to give credit without doing proper credit checks and obtaining proper proof of identity, then its their own fault if they are out of pocket!! |

Put it back in the envelope, reseal it, and send it back to the sender with 'not known at this address' written on the front.
Then sit back and forget about the whole thing!
(I once got a message left on my phone which consisted of someone shouting and swearing at me and accusing me of trying to steal his girlfriend. It was a wrong number but it made me feel bad anyway- this is run of the mill for us sensitive souls.) |

Yes it is an offence to open other people's mail but lets face it, most of us do it. I mean if it looks like something important and there's no return address on the back I'd open it, in case it was something important. I'd send it back to them, explaining what's happened and that you know nothing about it. We had that in our old flat. Bailiffs were posting letters through the door, every day. There was a name on the front of the envelope but no return address on the back as it was hand delivered. So I just opened them, got the number from the letter inside, phoned them, said you've got the wrong person and they were fine about me opening them and just said to send them all to the address they gave me. It was either that or I let them build up and the bailiffs come round when we're out. |

Send it back to the sender, telling them it's nothing to do with you. If you're name isn't on the letter, you shouldn't have opened it anyway. |

Send a certified letter to the creditor that the individual does not live there, and quit opening other peoples mail. In the future any letter you recieve with a wrong name on it, just write not at this address on the envelope and leave it for the mailman to take care of, it is none of your business. |
