Hi, i was summoned to answer questions regarding any assets (i am a college student and dont have any) for a CIVIL judgement that was made against me back in '08. Since the time of this judgement i have moved and switched residency to another state and am attending college there. What happened is that while i was visiting my parents in my old town, i was stopped for speeding and served paperwork on this previous judgement and need to appear on may 25th. here is the issue. I am a broke college student, and barely have enough money to cover the return trip back to college from my parents (500 miles), so there is no way to just pay this thing off and make it go away. My classes start on may 17th and i will not be back in this area untill around Christmas. I have talked (or tried to talk) to the opposing attorney and he would not listen to a word i had to say. i was trying to explain to him that i no longer live in this town and have not for over 2 years now and when they pulled me over i was served these papers to appear on may 25th and that i will not be able to show up because i am leaving back for college on the 17th and will absolutely not be back untill around Christmas and will only be here for 2 weeks at that time. The guy basically told me tough and to figure it out followed by hanging up on me. what are my options here? i have no choice but to head back to college on the 17th because if i dont, i lose my dorm room, everything that is in it as well as my student loans. what can i do?
