Dee88 | The credit crunch, who's to blame? |
Anyone else think the Government created it to make Gordon Brown look like he's doing something useful to help people out ie dropping the VAT to 15% woo wee I save £2.50 everytime I spend £100, lol! Seriously though i'm fed up hearing about it and I feel so sorry for everyone who is losing their jobs - but I do blame the govt! Additional Details Ooh this has got you all riled!! Obviously I know we aren't the only ones suffering, I meant that They have jumped on the band wagon with America etc. I know it's bad but I think they like to make things worse so they look better if they can look like they are trying to fix it.
Also I don't shop at Newlook - I'm not a skank! |

You do know it is a global issue, not just a British one don't you? To think Gordon Brown has that much power to affect the entire global economy is ridiculous!
Bankers and stock market short-sellers are to blame for this primarily, but governments across the world need to take a share of the blame for not regulating things properly. |

In true honesy, i think we all are. When you go in for a mortgage of 150,000 and get offered one for 200,000 not many people will turn it down. Greed im afraid and everyone thought they were rich for a short time, all caught up with them now. |

First of all the root causes of the US worst financial crisis are the sub-prime mortgage crisis and the Madoff and his Associates investment schemes. Due to cross border investments between US banks and UK banks, many of UK banks got involved with such bad apples and suffered losses in tens of billions pounds and had to do their write downs. As a result of this, those affected banks have liquidity problems and cannot operate normally. The government created this credit crunch, so that Brown can initiate bail out plans for UK banks to recapitalise and to lend to each other. |

A while ago, america introduced sub-prime mortgages into their housing market, later they found that people weren't paying back the mortgage which affected their housing market which transferred to the british housing market.
after that i guess there was some sort of domino effect, i remember there being something about these two american banks collapsing, then lehman brothers which significantly affects the global market and destroys confidence within banks.
and btw, i don't like the vat cuts, yes it is good that things cost less around christmas time but the fact that you had to spend about £40 to save £1 is pretty pointless seeing as the government want to put it up to something like 19% later |

DEMOCRATS
Bill Clinton Started the Community Reinvestment Act, which change the way banks were rated. Rather than on how they perform, they are now rated on how many loans they give to "special case"
(minorities, low income neighborhood, ect...). George Bush and John McCain proposed bills to investigate. But Barney Frank(democrat from Massachusetts) and Chris Dodd (democrat) stopped there efforts.

Lol blame our Government??? I think you should blame banks for lending money that they don't have sweetie... Jumping on the Gordon-Brown-bashing-bandwagon isn't big or clever. the VAT drop was to encourage public spending, it wasn't there to give you a massive discount at New Look. |

No blame the people who told others that their houses were worth far more than they cost to build. There are two main culprits 1) estate agents who hype property prices, 2) planners who stop people building homes - and thereby increase the scarcity value of plots and houses.
As a result people thought they were rich, and spent nonexistent wealth on their plastic cards - result a huge national debt. |

I don't know, i have just had a group discussion about it today at college. OMG after doing so much research for my assignment i am just confused now lol, there is a lot of information to take in.
EDIT: Oh yeah i agree with you, the government (going only on the UK) isn't helping matters either. |
