Time limit to start CCJ claim?
A business owes me about 5,000GBP and has been slow to pay. They promise to pay, but are just taking a long time.

What is the time limit to START a CCJ claim? 6 months, 12 months? from when the debt was payable.

reality
You can put claim to CC in a first 30-60 days only. Good Luck!

The Limitations Act 1980 outlines the time limit within which a creditor can chase a debtor for outstanding debts. The Limitations Act 1980 only applies when no contact has been made between the creditor and debtor within the given time limit and only applies to residents of England and Wales.
Creditors are given a fixed period of time to chase their debtors, which is outlined in the Limitations Act 1980. The time scale mainly depends on the type of debt and can be extended at the courts discretion. The time limit begins when you last admitted owing the money or made a payment.
Should the creditor fail to maintain contact with the debtor, for a period of 6 years or more, it is possible to claim that the outstanding debt is "Statute Barred" under the conditions of the Limitations Act 1980.

For a Civil Suit you have 4 years from the time the contract was breached to file. That is the law in the USA.

I would go with 6 months, well actually if a business owes you 5,000 GBP, you should have gotten your money a lot sooner cause they are just taking advantage of you, by thinking that they can give you the money whenever they want.

So be honest with you, you should go get the 5,000 GBP right now.

I don't know what a CCJ claim is. I am guessing that is a labor term and is akin to an unpaid wage. If so, most states provide for treble damages if the wage debt is not paid in the pay cycle. A qustion to you: are you sure the business is still operating and has not gone out of existence, i.e,, skipped town. Many companies don't, wisely or not, bother to dissolve and or file bankruptcy. You would help some the people who are more knowledgable than me who are trying to get their arms around what a CCJ claim is.

You can sue for an unpaid debt in UK up to 6 years from the date the debt became due.The due date for the debt is the date specified in the invoice for payment. After that has passed you can issue a County Court summons.Promises to pay after the due date do not alter the legal timescale.

6 Years basically.
Unless you're on very high wages, I would recommend contacting local high-street solicitor under legal-aid.
If you're not eligible call your local citizen advice bureau.

they can always help.
