This is why you read the fine print and make sure you understand everything before you sign anything. Yes, your credit score will be affected. You'll be lucky if they don't send a collections agency after you...

They will report to the credit agencys that you didn't pay a bill. You will be turned over to collections! It doesn't matter if you have a credit card or not. This will affect you being able to get a credit card, an apartment, a loan on a car and lots of other stuff! You need to read everything BEFORE you sign it! You signed a legal contract and the best thing for you to do is make the payments! Sometimes it costs money to learn lessons!

amy13alexis
This will effect your credit. If you don't make the payments on the contract then they will send it over to a collection agency. You either have to suck it up and pay the contract or find some other way out of it. But don't just not pay it.

You signed a legal document . . . they will win. I suggest getting a doctors not saying you can no longer workout for health reasons. That is the only way they will let you out of the contract. Maybe you can say you are moving to a different state where they do not have Bally's and see what they can do? I live in Mandeville, Louisiana and they don't have Bally's here.

i have no idea
Bally is bad, I had the same problem with them many years ago. I hope people read this and don't sign contracts with them anymore.

Anyway...yes it can effect your credit score. Whether it's a credit card or a checking account your account will probably be sent to a collections agency. At that point it goes on your credit report and it is nearly impossible to get it off once it's on there. You need to contact Bally's and see if you can work something out. If there is a specific reason that you want to get out of your membership (like injury or illness) tell them.
Good luck, I know from experience you're not having a good time!

How were you "scammed?" Did they lie to you? Did you get any evidence of being scammed on paper.

If you signed the contract, then you are obligated to abide by the terms of that contract. You may be suffering remorse for signing up for something you didn't fully understand, but that just meant that you should have read and understood what you signed.

Closing the checking account is clear evidence, to them, that you are trying to default on your payments. That means that they have every right to sue you for the entire amount of the contract terms, PLUS legal fees.

Be clear on this; you WILL lose this lawsuit, and it will ruin your credit for a long time to come. That means you won't get a credit card, anytime soon. It means you won't be able t finance a car for, at least several more years. And, they CAN get their money from you by attaching your wages from your current and future jobs.

You can TRY to settle with Bally's for something less than the full amount of your contract, but it is completely up to them if they want to do this or not.

It's not what you wanted to see, in this answer, but the lesson is that contracts are the way business is done. Adults are responsible to read anything and EVERYthing they sign, including the fine print.

When you promise someone you will pay them a certain amount of money, and then you back out of your promise and don't pay, well of course it can affect your credit, and rightly so -- obviously your are not a very good credit risk if you do not honor your financial promises.

VWBeetleBear
if they have your SS# , then they can call a collection agency to get the money from you...so you might as well start exercising there

They can turn you over to a collection agency so when you try to get a credit card or loan you might be denied.

djajr
YES! It will effect your credit score! On the good side, more than likely the only thing that's going to happen is some collector calls you 4 times a day. Given that this is probably a petty amount they're unlikely to sue.

Also, how long did you wait before trying to cancel the contract, most membership places like bally's let you out if you change your mind within 30 days.

John B
Your credit score will definately be affected, and they will probably drag you into small claims court or arbitration to get their $1,500 from you. It costs them preatty much nothing, and you get screwed.

However, your one option is to prove that they got you to sign the contract through deceptive practices, in which case it would be considered null and void. If you can do that, and trust me they'll have very good lawyers to try and stop you, then you might just wriggle your way out of this sticky situation.

xihua
OK, for right now...it will NOT affect your score because ballys is not going to waste money by reporting to the CRA's that you missed payment etc. They cannot afford it actually. HOWEVER, it will affect your score if they either:
a. take you to court and judgment is in favor for them (this will appear on your file as *public record*, titling a lien
b. send it off to collections in which the collection agency will be reporting to the credit reporting agency

The problem is these 2 things will remain on your report for 7 years. If you honestly think you were scammed, consult a lawyer. But the thing is you signed the contract and the only way to get out of it is cancel it, pay the entire 3yrs worth of membership, or just be a member and work out. Good luck and best wishes.

Yes, it will appear on a credit report, but you would be surprised at little weight their report means when appling for future credit especially if this is a common problem on their side.
A free way to state your side in a report would be to apply for credit, get denied, then the reporting company will offer you a free copy of your credit history and you can reply to the charges Bally is making.

anonymous
did you give them your ssn# when you signed up?
i signed a contract with Gold's Gym for 3 years but i never gave them my ssn#, they didnt even have my Driver's license #. I eventually closed my checking account too so all they could do was call me. I was never turned over to a collection agency and to this day hasnt appeared on my credit report.
