cy | Unemployed and in debt? |
I'm asking this for a friend who dosen't have a computer.
He's in debt, about to loose his job, lives with his friend, and no money saved up. Every payday he tries to pay his bills. Someone help me help him. Please. I don't know what to tell him. |

First I would ask, the question why is he in debt, loosing his job and lives with friend and has no money? Then I would proceed with, what is he planning to do about it? And then when is he going to implement his strategy and how is he going to do it. If he follows a few of these steps it will help improve his situation because for the first time he is actually creating a plan for his life and taking some responsibilities.
It appears to me that all of these matters/issue are revolved around one key issue, which will be answered shortly. Time is the key and taking immediate action is important, and how he carries out plan will ultimately determine his fate.
I want you to notice the key words you wrote up above, "TRIES" When paying bills its not about trying it's about doing it! Having debt is not the credit cards or lender's fault, it is his. It was his actions that created this domino affect. Its not the banks fault for having no money in it for his savings. He choose to live with a friend not you. And I know your not blaming banks, bills, employer, and bills. The main issue is your friend not be being responsible for his gross negligence. I am not saying life is a bowl of cherries (life can be extremely unfortunate), but when their is a roadblock in the way. It is not your responsibility to determine how you should proceed it is YOUR FRIEND! I make mistakes all the time and have crap thrown at me daily, but it appears his attitude and "will" should answer your question.
The best thing I can tell you from a friend to a friend is that you need to have him realize that life is about taking responsibilities for your own actions. If he doesn't do it who will? I know he is in a tough situation and maybe life has not been fair. But you should help him remember that the best thing he can do for himself is to accept the consequences and learn from it. It is not your job or duty to accept his roadblocks, but it is your duty as a friend to help him figure it out why it has happened. And by asking these important questions you will get the right answer. |

tell him to get a job |

He needs to find a new job that pays more. I was in that situation also after I dropped out of school and got kicked out my house. It was very hard at times but he has to be strong and work for it. Even two jobs if thats what it takes. Nobody can fully help him but himself. |

If he's paying his bills every week he should be ok. Tell him to save even if it's 20 bucks and pretend like he doesn't have it.
He should keep it out of his mind and eventually his money will add up |

He's probably depressed and scared. Your job as a friend is to help him get a grip on his situation...and it ain't a pretty one. There are short term actions and long term actions. First, start looking for another job, IMMEDIATELY. Doesn't matter if it's part time or low wages, just get SOME money coming in. Is he eligible for unemployment benefits? Get him to look into this. Can he do some housework in exchange for rent? He needs to keep a roof over his head. A part time job in a restaurant will assure that he gets food at least. Does he have anything he can sell? He needs gas to get to work and to keep looking for a better job. Those are the basics.
Long term; why is he in debt? Does he need to re-examine what he spends his money on? Why did he lose his job? Does he need to become a better employee?
Is it basically time for him to grow up? If making a living was easy, people wouldn't go to work every day. Life is not like it is on TV, you have to work, budget, and plan in order to make it. You can help him climb out of this mess, but it's going to be one slow step at a time. |

Does he smoke, take drugs, or drink? Most people just dont lose their job for any old reason (unless of course the place is going under or cant afford him). I bet you he is lazy, late to work, and spends his money on worthless things. |

Call Debtstoppers, or maybe invest some money into a stock. He should ask an expert which is good stock to invest into, because if he does invest in a successful stock, his money could go through the roof, if done correctly. |
