I had that same problem. Assuming the transaction wasn't declined, the issuer will simply post it to the account. No men with rubber hoses will try to find you.

That's called credit card fraud.
You need to contact the place you made the purchase immediately and explain to them what happened. Have cash in hand ready to hand to them. |

If the CC was cancelled AND "closed," then the transaction should never have processed. That being said, the account probably has not been closed and the charge will show up. You could return the purchase and get a credit to the acct and then repurchase the item(s) on your card...or wait for the bill and pay Mom. |

Usually they would decline it and not let you leave the store. Since they approved the purchase, I would guess that the account was not really closed and your mom will get billed. |

They'll either reopen the credit card or decline/dispute the transaction.
In the second case, you wouldn't have to pay anything and the merchant would suffer a loss.
I believe that for a large amount, they'll reopen the card and sent a statement to your mother. |

If a credit card company rejects your application for insufficient credit score or credit ratings, it will send you information about it. This information will help you track down the credit rating agency and negative remark that caused the decline in your credit scores. If you find it incorrect you can dispute the credit report, get that negative remark removed and apply online for that very credit card again. Hopefully, if everything goes right you will get approved online.
If you faced the denial for any other reason, which you find difficult to understand, you can ask the credit card company about it. The fastest way is to contact the credit card customer care and tell them about your problem. Secondly, if you don't like calling you can send them a polite email and request a clarification. I think you will get billed for your purchase or your mother I would call and come clean with the credit card company in case you want to reopen your acct. for the future. |

Normally, as soon as you closed the account, no charges should come through unless the person you talked to didn't close the account per your request.
Trust me, you can't just walk away without paying for it.
Obviously the account didn't close at the time of the purchase. The merchant was able to put through and get an authorization that means, the merchant will get pay by credit card company. Meanwhile, the charges will appear on your mom's credit card and legally, she's responsible for it since she lets you use it. Unless she's willing to press charge against you then she can get off and the credit card company will go after you for fraudulent charges on the account. They won't just forgive and forget that easily. Either your mom or you will have to face the consequences. |
