A Visa Gift Card is NOT a credit card. It is a debit card, and it is not universally accepted. It can be used in any store that accepts Visa but not at gas pumps although it can be used inside the station, and some on-line sites won't accept, at ATM's you usually can not get cash and there are fees attached to using it at someplaces, depending in the terms of the card that was purchased.. |

The Visa Gift Card is a debit card (mine says "debit" on the front). Try selecting "debit" if that option is there. Although some payment types just say "Credit" like paypal does, but it is still considered debit. Also you might need to register your card, if your dad purchased it at a Wal-Mart (or possibly Food Lion, but I'm not sure about that) then it is already registered, but if not you must register it at the site provided on the back of the card. I'm pretty sure iTunes take Visa since Visa, itself is a popular card company and iTunes wants to make sure it has a broad range of customers who use different types of card services. I hope this helps, be sure to reply and let us see what happening next. |

Have you activated it yet?
If you haven't, then it's not valid. |

When you buy something on-line using the traditional Visa card, the Merchant has an on-line terminal that can check your credit card account to see that it is valid and deduct the purchase amount from your account. When you use a gift card, the Merchant needs to have it physically present ,so that the amount can be deducted from the card using his/her machine connected to Visa HQ.Otherwise, the holder and 20 or 50 friends could be going on-line to purchase goods usint the gift card number. This is a very good reason why you should never give out your credit card number to friends . |

Some ONLINE companies do not accept Visa...so look into that first. Also, sometimes the card needs to be activated first or if he just bought the gift card, with some companies it can take up to 24 hours before it is activated for use.
Otherwise, if none of these are the issues, the cashier who swiped the card to activate it may not have done it right, in which case, look on the back of your gift card and there should be a 1-800# to call customer service and they can walk you through what to do.
Good Luck! |

You can use the card in stores but not online since it is not registered to you. Only valid credit cards where they actually have all your information is accepted. In the stores they will get your signature to go with the purchases. Obviously online can not get this from you. Its a form of security protection. |

You may want to stop by a store or a bank and have them check to make sure that the card was activated. Sometimes, clerks get in a hurry, and they forget to activate the card before they give it to dads who then give them to their kids. |
