Visa Mastercard U.S. District Court Settlement?
Has Anyone received a Visa Mastercard settlement notice, where you have to apply to receive money back if you purchased anything internationally between 1996 and 2006? Is the Real? How exactly this work? I dont know much about finances but I know that I have used my cards in other countries during those year? I even know someone that actually opened the card here in the US and now lives in another country, All their transactions have happened over there? Does anyone know anything about this?

I received one of those as well and did a little research. It would appear to be legit. I have confirmed the fee structure that resulted in the suit as well as the settlement itself in a USA Today article as well as PRSnewswire. I suspect if it were a scam they would be asking for credit card information on the form. You're very wise to do your research!!

It appears as though Visa, Mastercard, and Diners Clubs conspired to hide transaction fees for foreign transactions by inflating the base exchange rate. If you were to look at your statement, you'd never notice the fee unless you somehow managed to find out the exchange rate for that day and make a comparison. I've never been a big fan of credit card companies, but this one is a new low. Anyway, 25 buck is 25 bucks so I'll be sending my reply card back.

I just sent mine in for the 'measly' $25.00... If you don't need the money let them keep it. I searched several sites and concluded it was legit and I felt I needed my money more than they did. (Maybe it's just me). The letter I received had no reference to card numbers or bank account numbers, nor did the website referenced in said letter. It checked out OK for me.

I received one of these today, and after some Googling I found the website of the law firm that won the case. Here's their website: http://bergermontague.com/newsitem.cfm?id=55

I would say this is legit. Try Googling the terms "Re Currency Conversion Fee Antitrust Litigation" without the quotes. There are other news websites that reported this story.

I got one of these, too. I can't find anything online about it, other than the websites already posted - which links to the same page referenced in the letter/form (www.cfsettlement.com). I'm not totally convinced, though. They ask for bank account numbers if you want to file for an "annual estimation refund" but nothing about credit cards numbers... I live close to Canada, so I'm sure I've spent money in a "foreign" country over the past 10 years, but I have no idea how much. I can't decide if it's worth the effort (especially for the measly easy 25 dollar refund) without knowing more. I hate credit card companies, though - I would kinda like to stick it to them.

I got one too!!! Glad you asked the question, I'm hoping someone has the answers, because I don't. I'll check back to see if you get any good responses.

When I submitted my claim they already had all of my information. They did not ask for any new information from me.

Tim Ycg
This has been confirmed via several news sources now (my local one particularly). But if you are still not sure, just make sure you provide them no information regarding your credit cards... no numbers, nothing. Your address is on their site already, so you are not providing anything new to them (for the $25 one anyway)

Just use basic web safety (such as asking about it here).

Steven B
We received one as well! Anyone have a firm answer? Email me at stevenrb41@yahoo.com

Here's some background on the case...it looks like it may be a real opportunity to file a claim...

I checked both Visa and Mastercard company web sites could not find anything about this settlement. I don't think this is real
