WHy I can't get a credit card in my name??
I am 20 years old and have applied for several different credit cards (student cards nontheless) as well as cards to different stores (ie express or target) and am turned down every single time. I have had a steady job with the same company for the last two years and never had a credit card before, so it can't be my "bad credit". Every time i'm turned down for having "no credit history"! AHhhhh! How am i supposed to get a history if i can't even get a card to begin with!!
Anyone else with this problem and what can I do about it!!?
Additional Details
Even when i've asked for a limit on the card, i'm still turned down..

Here's your solution...
First off, don't get a credit card... that's a way to easily hurt yourself.
But there are some very good ways to build up your credit

One is apply for a small secured loan at your bank, and pay it off ... this will help your credit.

You can get a secured credit card, talk to your bank about that... that's another good way of building credit.

Remember, no credit is good credit.

Try and avoid credit cards though... they just aren't safe these days. If you feel it's necessary though, you're not getting approved because you don't have a credit history... it's not a bad credit, it's no history.

Try getting a secured credit card, one where you give them what your limit will be. Like you send in 500 dollars and then you have 500 dollars on the credit card. Or ask your parents to get a card with you like a co-signor, you will help build up your credit that way too.

First you need to stop applying for several different cards. Every time you apply for a credit card it goes as an inquiry on your credit report. Generally 1 or 2 inquiries are not going to hurt you, but have more than that in the last few months it will become a bigger negative.

You then should look at getting a secured card. Orchard Bank is a very good one for this. For these you put a deposit into an account, the company then gives you a credit card with the same limit. Unlike Debit Cards these report to the Credit Reporting Companies just as a regular credit card would. I beleive that they start as low as a $200 dollar deposit, but you should try to put in at least $300 to $500 into the account. Then when you have it, don't use more than 30% of your total limit and pay every bill in full and on-time. After a few months you should be able to get an unsecured card.

Email me directly at forexalerts1@yahoo.com. I'll show you how to put AAA1 credit onto your credit file in 30 days. I did this for a friend of mine that had no credit and he got a $5000 unsecured gold card after doing this. Completely legal. You're using the credit cards reporting cycle to your advantage.

To gain collateral there must be a source of which this credit can be paid. Do you have a checking and savings account?

Try going to your bank or a credit union that issue there own cards such as a visa/debit card which helps build credit by automatically deducting from your checking account.

I recommend you get a secured credit card. Secured credit cards are an option to allow a person with a poor credit history or no credit history to have a credit card which might not otherwise be available. They are often offered as a means of rebuilding one's credit. Secured credit cards are available with both Visa and MasterCard logos on them. Fees and service charges for secured credit cards often exceed those charged for ordinary non-secured credit cards, however, for people in certain situations, (for example, after charging off on other credit cards, or people with a long history of delinquency on various forms of debt), secured cards can often be less expensive in total cost than unsecured credit cards, even including the security deposit.

Here is a list of credit cards for people with no credit history http://www.ccvault.com/credit_cards/bad_credit.php

Orchard bank seems to be the one everyone recommends.

good luck

Do you have a checking account? Have you had any utility bills in your name (phone, cell, electric, cable, etc.)? If no to both of these, then you really don't have a credit history.

I would suggest going to a site like this (www.e-wisdom.com/credit_cards/student.h... and try to get a card there. Usually credit card companies will bend over backwards to hook students to a credit card (they market aggressively on college campuses). You should be able to find something.

And note that the more cards you apply to, the lower your credit score goes. Every time you apply and get denied it lowers your score several increments.

get a cheque (check for americans...) book and use for a while to establish you can handle not paying with cash...

or get a visa debit card - no credit and you can only spend what you put in there....

but if you do get one of these - DON'T stuff it up as then you will have a bad credit rating - and make sure if you are offered a credit card you check what the penalties are...

try appying online for something like virgin credit cards - I have one of those for emergencies if my main credit card doesn't work..

I have had a credit card since about 22... before that had a cheque account....

The two easiest unsecured cards to get to establish credit is Orchard Bank and First Premier Bank. Try them.
