Wachovia predicted to fail. Should I take my money to another bank ?
Wachovia is predicted to be the next bank to fail. Should I take my money to another bank ? If my account is frozen I may not have money to pay my bills.

Wachovia is in deep trouble. I would take my business to another stable bank. If you cannot access your account then you could miss payments and damage your credit rating.

If they are being bought out by another bank you're probably okay.

However, if not, you might need to consider changing banks. I'm sure it's insured but it could take a while to get your money back. Also, if you have direct deposit, you might want to get that changed so you don't have any problems later on.

No matte what bank you go to, there's always a chance it will be bought out by another bank. Wachovia is FDIC insured to $100,000 and $150,000 for the investments.

I am kind of wondering the same thing. However, If you, me and everyone else reacts with panic to this situation, and races down to Wachovia to pull our money out, then in a matter of 1 week, a good bit of the federal insurance on these banks that are failing will be gone. So far, this panic has caused 1.3 billion to be moved out of this bank, within days. This is what happened on Black Monday when the great depression hit. The only difference now is that the money is basically insured but mass panic can and probably will create the same effect.

Can't you people see that when a bank buy another bank out it takes their debt so this is just one big circle

Why are you people going to keep allowing someone to smack you in the face just think for a second if all banks fail how would the government be able to pay back all that debt. I know the banks and government say that your money is FDIC up to 100,000 but just think if all the banks was to fail at once how would the government be able to pay everybody back what they have saved up in the bank. The Government is full of Shyt and you should not trust this LIE. DONT PUT THIS TYPE OF TRUST IN ANYONE Please have something stashed away ~GOD BLESS~

Yes. I bank with Wachovia and am kicking myself for not switching already. If the govt. takes over, you can guarentee it will be a hassel getting money out.
(ie. what IndyMac customers had to go through...http://www.inmoneytoday.com/2008/07/22/indymac-bank-bank-failure-long-lines-and-a-real-home-of-genius-another-reason-why-indymac-bank-failed-2/)

Wachovia is unlikely to fail. It could wind up being acquired. There is a difference.

Your account wouldn't be 'frozen'. They just do that to bad people. Your money would be moved to a new bank if Wachovia fails. If it is bought out, it will still be accessible like normal.

But the peace of mind of not having to worry about possibly getting a new bank account at a mystery bank is nice. I would go ahead and move the dough.

FDIC insures your deposits up to $100k. They don't freeze bank accounts as such! Don't be stupid and make a bank run. Let time and economy take care of itself. FDIC will insure your deposits. But if you panic and make a bank run and others follow suit, rest assure Wachovia will fail! When banks fail, it doesn't mean they go bankrupt. They simply run out of cash in hand to meet thier obligations and when they do, FDIC steps in and insures you. As bad as it got for Wamu, FDIC wasn't even called up! JP Morgan assumed it all for Wamu. All assets, liabilities, bad debts etc. All the money that was in Wamu is safe. Wachovia if it fails will be safe.
