I JUST got back from getting my taxes done. The stimulus check IS a loan. I was supposed to get 3,200, instead I got 2,300 because the IRS took the $900 I received back. If this is going to be the case....they can keep the damn money. |

No, it's not a loan, it's an advanced credit. Even the IRS discloses that the stimulus will not affect your refund or the amount of tax you'll owe.
What seems to be happening is that some tax software gives you the credit and then subtracts it back at the end. Thus making it seem like you're paying it back. In reality, they're just making sure you don't get the full rebate credit twice.
**The IRS did not take back the $900. They just need you to account for the amount received, so you don't claim another $900. The Recover Rebate is for those who didn't get any check at all or received less than the full amount. If your situation changed, you may get more. If your situation changed to the point where you received more than you should have, you don't have to pay the overage back. |
