Secured credit card are special type of credit cards which have some collateral attached with them. Generally the collateral is a bank account or some deposit. Secured credit cards are simply great for those who have less than perfect credit and those who want to start building their credit history.
Secured credit cards generally have an application fee attached with them, so if you want to apply for a secured credit card you will have to shell out some money upfront. In addition to this application fees the secured credit cards have annual fees and relatively high interest rates.
Each secured credit card comes with a credit limit equal to the amount deposited in the credit card. However the secured credit card issuing companies deduct their fees from your deposit as soon as you start using your credit card. Let us look into this point a little further. Supposed you have deposited a sum of $300 in your secured credit card and the secured credit card has an annual fee of $120 the credit card issuing company will deduct this annual fee from your deposit and effectively you will have a credit limit of $180 ($300 - $120)with you initially.
The secured credit card companies report to the three major credit bureaus and hence every spending and repayment on your credit card gets recorded and reflects in your credit report. If you use the secured credit card judiciously, things will be great for your credit history. Though the credit limit associated with the secured credit cards seem pretty low initially, but as the confidence of credit card companies grow on you and your credit rating improves you will see an increase in these credit limits. The secured credit card company might charge some fee for improving your credit limits. I suggest going to your own bank and ask them if they can give you an application for their credit card. Because there are so many companies around that I can tell you NOT to use, I think it would just be better to try your own bank first. |

start with a store-based card, like sears...buy something, pay it off as soon as the bill comes in, and keep doing that...after a few months you'll probably be flooded with credit offers, just be careful...some of the interest rates are outrageous! |

What's your FICO? Don't know the answer or don't know what that is? Then you need to first do a little research on yourself! Have you checked your credit reports? Are they completely clean? If your reports are totally blank and you have no score at all then you should probably get a student (IF you're a student that is) credit card through your bank/credit union. You can also apply for a secured credit card such as National City. All the secured cards that I know of charge an annual fee. National City's is only $36 a year and payable at $3 per month. |

Wal-mart. You can get what you need and only use a portion of your Wal-mart credit to pay portion of your total. That way it's easy to pay back and your using it efficiently.
They are VERY easy to get for someone with no credit. I doubt walking into any bank with absolutely no credit will hand you a credit card. Wal-mart will though and it's just the same. Just gotta use it at Wal-mart.
Many people screw their credit up through businesses credit cards. You have to stay on top of it :) |

I never had a credit card, only a cell phone in my name.. Once i graduate college and got a job, i wanted to get a car... WROOONG when the finance told me I had No credit, i was thinking that was good, when in act, no credit is just as bad/if not worst than having BAD credit
I could not get any credit card, and i applied everwhere *which also hurts your credit score*....the only thing i could do is go to my bank *bank of america* and hey have credit cards just for that "tobuild up credit'...i was only allowed a $500 limit...i used it and payd it off every month for the longest...i even got a car/ with a co-signer....after about 1.5 yrs, i STILL had LOW credit and could no do anything....I couldnt get a raise on the 500 credit card due to the low credit score...but i kept on doing what ive been doing...till what seemed like over night i had a 678 credit score, *not perfect, but going from nothing to that, im proud of it*
to answer your question....go to your local bank, tell them your problem, and they will set you up with the same thing, a small limit credit card designed for people like US who have no credit that want to gain, or people with bad credit who want to again

go to bankrate.com and find one that has NO annual fee, very low interest rate (10% amd below is a good rate), and the reward program that fits your life style. Remember, don't charge it up on things that you want and cannot afford. Only charge things that you really need, and pay it off on time every month. Carrying a balance don't help you boost the credit score. |
