best answer would be to get no credit cards, they prey on the young next thing you know your 10k in debt at age 25. credit cards and credit are not essentials to live by. if you have steady work you can survive quite well without parasites trying to get you in debt for the rest of your life. |

my advice is get a pre pay credit card. where you put money on to it so you dont get in debt. credit cards are terrible things i owe lots on mine and the intrest is crazy |

stay clear of them, just get yourself a visa which is a direct debit card.if you have funds in your account you can use the card worldwide.Thats how I operate. |

if you havent had one before...interest rate might be higher than you'd like...remember, they dont know you..so might not want to take a big risk. Capitol One usually do good starter cards..but check the interest rate.
i have banked with Hsbc for 30 yrs..and my interest rate on my credit card with them is 16.9%. i havent long had a Virgin credit card...and my interest with them...is 11.9%....SO - make sure you shop around. am cancelling Hsbc soon!
a few phone calls will get you the best deal - remember..they want your money at the end of the day. happy travelling by the way - sounds like fun!! |

If going abroad you would be best with a no fees for exchange rate one, Believe Nationwide Bank do a fee free one, others charge around 2.5% on what you spend outside the UK. However, pay it off at the end of the month or suffer high interest payments, forget to pay and suffer a fee.... |

Despite the fact Credit Card companies are EVIL and they are preying on you, then can be good if put to the right use and managed properly. There are a lot of cards that offer rewards for various purchases, and buying paying off your balance each month you can start to build your credit so when you are ready to buy your first home you can get a better mortgage. Lenders want to see you are responsible with your debt and then you get better interest rates. For a list of various cards to choose from go here and compare.

none - if you can stay out of debt and manage the money you bring in - then you should be very very proud of yourself. Credit cards - loans - debts of any description are a pain in the backside and cause loads of grief. Be happy and keep away from debt. Work while you travel could be an idea. |
