AVOID credit cards at all cost! You will regret it. If you can't afford it now, save your money and buy it when you have it. They are all scams and will take your hard earned money right from under your nose!

cash.

despite what the media and tv say, you do NOT need a credit card.

Chase offers good rewards. You can earn up to 3% cash back with their Freedom cash visa. They are a major issuer and have no annual fee/low apr.

Do not get:

CAPITAL ONE (Or CRAP1 in the credit world)

They are a subprime bank at best.

Go with:

CITI
AMEX (American Express)
WAMU (Washington Mutual)

CAPITAL ONE, they will give you a chance especially if you don't have any credit

prolly mastercard or visa since everyone accepts them.

Visa and master cards are good. Discover have some types of cards with 0%apr and reward programs.

I like anything with the Visa logo. Visa is preferred over MasterCard. I tried to finance my schooling, and they only take a card with the Visa logo, not a credit card with MasterCard logo.

Here's To 2009! =]
I've had capital one since I turned 18 and I LOVE them! They are a great cc company to start with and the card is great. The customer service is just as great! :-)
