What's the best credit card for a new adult (18 years old)?
I'm about to turn 18 and I'll need to get a credit card, so that my parents cannot control my money any longer. what is the best kind to get and why (visa vs. mastercard, APR rates, interest, etc.)

The best credit card for you is a student credit card. Even if you dont go to school they are easy to qualify for because they dont require you to have a credit history. My first credit card was a citi bank student credit card and they gave me 1000 dollar credit limit. Please check out my Company and get a 60 sec approval on the card that fits you best! http://www.realcreditoffers.com/?cont=1002/1002_page_23817_124737.php&applic_id=3286&COOK_VIS_ID=95c3ef934772e4df50049c9500268bd4&COOK_VST_ID=f0ff4aa9c19600c014d7855640de4911&COOK_LINK_ID=deleted&COOK_SPEC_CLICK=deleted&COOK_CL_APN=not&cl=

Any with good low interest. The visa and master blue are good options, because they are made for students and have a low interest rates. But be careful, don't borrow to much. It's very easy to spent, but very hard to pay it back. The best combo is just debit credit card.

I would strongly recommend getting a prepaid debit card, or a debit card with a new checking account from a bank. Do not get into debt by getting a credit card. Save that for when you are married, and you really need the money or credit line. You can get a free checking account from Bank of America, and they give you a free Visa debit card, which costs you nothing. It is like spending a check without writing one. You can buy things online, and use it just like a credit card, without the payments. Your best bet is to budget your money, and don't spend it before you have it. Credit cards will charge you around 13-18 percent interest, that is compounded DAILY. So, the longer you don't pay off the debt, the more money they are making off of you. If you pay the minimum payment, then you are just paying off interest, and not principal, and you pretty much count on having a credit card bill for the rest of your life. AND, if you are late on ANY bill, even if it is a utility bill, and the credit card company finds out about your delinquency, they can raise your interest rate up to 30 PERCENT! Don't do it until you are married, or on your own for sure. TRUST ME

http://cards.hotusa.org - try this one. I personally use this card.
This card is also very good to build credit rating.

the only cards I have are visas and I have no problems with them as long as you stay current on your payments... good way to build your credit score

the best credit card is a secured one, start small and build some history, then go for something else

capitalone will accept anyone that just turned 18 you get a $300 limit and it goes up to $500 if you pay on time the first 3 months.
Visa and mastercard dont really matter since you can use them almost anywhere. Get the lowest apr and interest rates possible also try for cards that offer rewards

dinomail_9000
The easiest way to get a credit if you don't have an established credit history is to get a "secured" credit card. It works the same as a credit card but the only difference is you have to put money in first before you can start using it. Basically, your credit limit is the money you put in. In return, the money you put in sometimes earn interest depending on your agreement with your financial institution This is a good way to establish credit because normally banks will not just approve you for a credit card if you don't have any credit history. And if you can, stick with VISA or MASTERCARD. So far they are the best ones. Normally you start out with 21.33% APR. But I warn you. After about 6 months of having that secured credit card, banks will start sending you pre-approved credit card offers over the mail. Don't get tempted with what they offer you. Just pick one that has the lowest APR and no ANNUAL FEE. And make sure that you always pay your credit card off because they will charge you a LOT of INTEREST if you don't.

Capital One has the best programs for young people getting their first credit cards. Some cards have rewards.

get one that charges the most interest.. the higher the interest the higher your credit score will be

kellybelly42490
Haha, none. I refuse to get one so I dont end up owing money to anyone.

I find a visa checking card pretty nice though.

There isn't a good credit card out there. But if your trying to establish credit usually the easiest cards to get is a student credit card or a jewelry credit card.

BTW: Don't get carried away! I don't even think I'm ever going to get a credit card because of all the possible debt....

Dont get too many thought trust me. I am 20, and I payed attention in my economy class. You can go into debt fast. Get one from your bank. They offer starter credit cards so you can build your credit fast. Once we buy my second computer with my credit card, and pay it off, I am closing mine with my bank and getting the Master Card from Best buy to get best buy points. Visa and master card are the same.. don't get one from them as companies its stupid. Get one from your bank or your favorite store, to get special bonus stuff, like points and coupons from purchases. But make sure you get the one that you can use anywhere. Some stories like well this example will be babies r us. You can get the credit card from them to just use at their store. it doesn't work anywhere else, or the Master Card one that works everywhere so they can earn points on the card from buying groceries or gas or anything. Thats the better Idea.
