What Credit card could I apply for with bad credit?
I've called 4 credit card companies now, chase, american express, discover, and Capital 1. and I'm declined because I have bad credit. But, when I talked to a credit specialist, he said to get a credit card and only put $50 gas a month and pay it off every month and my credit will raise. How can I do this, if I can't even get a credit card? Do you know of any companies that may approve me?
Additional Details
ok I've never had a credit card before, so that's not why I have bad credit. I signed a lease at an apartment, then lost my job, so not able to pay for rent for the rest of the term, it went to a collection agency. This is now paid off, but I still have bad credit score.

If you are trying to reestablish you credit, get a gas credit card and pay it on time every month. You can do the same with a department store credit card.

If you have some money saved you could get a secured credit card, it works just like a regular credit card except you have to secure your credit line with a cash deposit.

After you do this for a while you may be able to get a small credit line on a regular credit card. Talk with the people at your local bank.

With the huge collapse of the mortgage loan industry, expect credit to be harder to get and intereset rates to be higher.

Can your bank card be used as credit as well as debit? If it can, then avoid applying for a credit card (that brings your score down too.) Just use your bank card as a credit card. Don't use it as debit. Just an f.y.i, the so called credit specialists are apart of the credit card companies.
With bad credit, you should just skip the credit card companies.
With time your credit score will rise, just be patient.
good luck.

Here's a list of credit cards that are specifically offered to people with bad credit.

http://www.credit.com/products/credit_cards/sub-prime.jsp

Be very careful and responsible with your new card. Many sub-prime credit cards involve exorbitant fees and interest rates if you miss a payment or carry a debt longer than one credit cycle. They will be totally unforgiving because they know from the get-go that you're a risk.

If you have already paid off your existing debt, and you follow the specialist's advice to the letter, you should be ok and it will slowly help to improve your credit score. Mostly, though, you're just gonna have to wait - items on your credit report expire after 7 years.

If you have NOT paid off your current debt, do that first before getting a new card. No financial institution will give you a credit card if you're still carrying a lot of debt and have a history of late or missed payments to boot. In that case, constantly applying and being declined for new credit cards can bring down your credit score even more.

Your credit specialist is an idiot. I know a lot of credit specialists suggest this, but if you already have bad credit, chances are you made some poor choices and you need to take some time to relearn how to manage credit before getting a new card. And it isn't smart to keep applying - all the inquiries will lower your score.
Rather, you should: work hard, pay all your current bills on time, pay down any debt that you have, and make sure you have a savings.

Help
you could get a credit card even if you don't have any credit history, you just have to apply for the right card I would start with a a premier bank card this card will help you get your credit started use it for a few months just to build credit once you have had it and use it for 6-9 months apply for a better card and drop this one, good luck check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com and go under poor or no credit section.

Vampira of treehuggers
