What can Credit Card companies legally do, if you stop making payments?
What if you are a Canadian in Florida and these are American Cards? Would going back to Canada be absolutely necessary?

Whoa! You're an alien, you're a legal alien,
You're a Canadian in F L A.

You don't like football you like hockey, dear
You like your Mountie on one side
I can hear it in your accent when you say "eh?"
You're a Canadian in F L A

See you driving through to the Florida Keys
A can of Molson's in your hand
Don't pay your credit cards, there's nothing they can do
But your credit rating will be canned

Whoa! You're an alien, you're a legal alien,
You're a Canadian in F L A.

Collections; claim your assets-that means your house, car, shirt off your back(which will all be auctioned off); application to the courts for garnishing of wages(and they will win-they can afford the lawyers) - you will live in poverty the rest of your life. and muddy your name creditwise. for all credit companies are intertwined.

Your move.

I learned that they can't take anything from you if you don't own anything. I also learned not to shelter assets in a girlfriends name, as now I really do own nothing...

GEM GEM GEM and the frightening part is you CLAIM to be in a place of high authority, with statements like this it does not enhance your credibility.

They can send the accounts to collection agencies who will try to collect the debts through various means. They can then take you to court and get a judgment against you and then take action to attach your assets and wages including bank account funds. They then can leave this negative info on your credit reports where it stays a number of years depending on if they do or do not take action and get a judgment. If they just report it and RUIN your credit rating then it will stay a total of 7.5 years from the date you stop paying and the bill is overdue and you never brign it current.

Sick some collection agents on you, that's about it. They can try to take you to court to claim your assets to pay it back, but if you had to just file for bankruptcy, hell, it's not like everyone else isnt.

1. Charge late fees of up to $50 every month, then charge interest on the interest.

2. Raise the interest to 40% or more, then charge interest on that interest.

3. Ruin your credit rating for 10 years and don't think hiding in Canada will help you as the Amero and combined credit & currency is coming soon.

4. Sue you in court. Then if you still refuse to pay, file garnishment against your assets and wages.

They can put a black mark on your credit reports, and make it a lot harder for you to get credit in the future. Want to buy a house or a car? Want to get a student loan? Do you ever buy airplane tickets or rent a car with a credit card? What if your fridge dies, or you need to replace the transmission in your car suddenly?

They can also sell your debt to a collection agency, who will start calling you and asking you to repay. You might get calls at home or at work, or your family and friends and co-workers might get the call, asking where you can be found. Pretty soon, these people might put 2 and 2 together, and find out you aren't paying your bills.

Would you get deported for this? Probably not. But I think that it would get obnoxious (and expensive) enough that you ought to pay your bills in the first place. It would definitely be easier in the long run.

Well... debt is debt and they'll send a collection agency to sic you with letters and whatnot. They'll also stack the interest so high you'll drown in it. If you really want to go back to Canada pay off the debt first.
