When your back is against the wall, you take care of the most important bill - which in your case was your mortgage.

Alot of what you can do with those depends on many things. Like, are they in your name only, are they in your ex's name and you are just an authorized user, how old they are, if they have been sold to collections.

You need to find out your states statute of limitations.

If you are just the authorized user on some of the cards, write the credit bureaus and tell them it is not yours.

Go to the link I've provided. It is a "free" do it yourself credit repair site. Never pay a website for info you can get for free.
Start doing some reading in the newbie forum then in the credit forum.

I also recommend using a non-profit debt consolidation company. One I've had success with is Delray CC. They are very helpful and counsel you on how to improve your credit. Just make sure you don't use a debt settlement company, as these will hurt your credit.

The cleaning of credit differs according to the state. The length of time for the information to drop off of credit differs also, so you need to talk with the credit bureau to find out the specifics and dispute anything that's on your credit that you have a problem with or that's not actually yours.

You can pay back the charge offs. That will be a good start. I know it's hard but you asked.

You need not to max out all your cards to their max.

Make your payments on time and it takes time .

You can use non-profit credit counseling to consolidate all of your credit cards into one payment and reduce the interest rates. Pay off those credit cards, then after that keep up with your bills, and soon your credit rating will improve.

You need to pay off your debt and get rid of your credit cards. You should never have more than 1 card for emergencies. Don't over-extend yourself

It just takes time, average of seven years for things to clear up. Keep paying regulary and it will help.

yep a few things you can do.
most importantly is DO NOT APPLY FOR ANY CREDIT!

start paying down your debt, by paying less then the minimum amount , you're only paying the interest. your debt ratio will never come down.

call your creditors and ask them to work with you, you'd be surprised. they aren't 'out to get you' explain your situation and ask for a less stringent payment plan.

try not to use your credit card unless absolutely positively necessary.

Sorry to hear about your situation, i feel for you girl!
