What can be done if a seller charges $1,200.00 in shipping costs for a small wall clock on Ebay?
I won a 12" wall clock on Ebay in Germany for $7. When I went to pay for it with PayPal, the shipping came up as 1,000.00 euro ($1,200.00 bucks). The seller's site gave shipping prices for Germany the the EU and they were very reasonable so I assumed shipping to the US would also be reasonable. EBay's resolution desk is not helpful Aren't there maximum shipping fees allowed by EBay. What's my recourse other than ignoring the payment request? Can PayPal go after my credit card account without my permission?
You have got to be kidding me if Ebay thinks that their "low" insertion fees are hiding that fact that they are now raising the final value fees exponentially! I think that it is ridiculous that they have the nerve to send an email about this like it is a good thing. I am barely making ends meet with the sales that I currently have and now they are telling me as of April 1st they want to take even more in Final Value Fees. Well, all I can say is that I hope they expect my number of listings to drop substantially. I have other avenues for selling my goods that are far less expensive than ebay. I chose ebay because of the ease and "former" value. Ebay is taking away the value for me so I will not continue to sell my high priced items on ebay any longer. I will choose to sell the lower priced junk only and sell my higher priced items elsewhere.

Ebay is not doing the shipping, so they can't help you. You agreed to pay the shipping and handling costs without asking what they were first. That's your problem.

Shipping cost are disclosed at the time you are bidding, correct? You are pretty limited as far as your recourse. I don't believe PayPal can go after your credit card, but you could report it as lost or stolen to ensure it won't happen. I don't think you are obligated to complete the purchase, but it can give you a nasty mark on your Ebay account. You could contact the seller and explain you didn't realize it was $1200.00.
