I am sorry to tell you, but probably not much. If he had credit it both of your names and then abused it, they will come after you. If the credit is in his name you won't have much of a problem. If he applied for credit in your name using your ss number etc., and you have not benefited from that credit (a big screen tv for your house would qualify as you benefiting. Him buying clothes for himself or hunting equipment would not). Then you could claim he stole your identity, of course this could then become a criminal offense. Good Luck. |

How did your ex wreck your credit with no fault of your own? Did he use your credit fraudulently? If so, you should report him for fraud and identity theft. OR did you give him access to your credit and co-sign for him? In that case, even if he didn't follow up his end of the deal, it is not technically "no fault of your own." Your credit is a portrait of your behavior and risk when it comes to acquiring and paying off debt. Making bad decisions is reflected in that - and giving him access to your credit is a bad decision.... |

If you were married when it happened? Nothing. If it's a situation where your boyfriend used your credit card without your knowledge then you MIGHT be able to dispute the charges. But if it was with your consent then his debt is your debt now. Sorry. |

My gf had the same thing happen to her. Her husband ran up the bills due to gambling behind her back and took off. She had to declare bankruptsy. |

Unfortunately if all the credit was in your name, then you are responsible for it. Find a way to fix it and get yourself back on track. You could talk to a lawyer and see if there's anyway you could sue your ex, but I don't know if it's even worth all the time and extra money. It would be a hassle. Work out some payment plans with the creditors and tell your ex to get lost. |

There's nothing you can do about it, a ruined credit is your problem alone. Never should give your credit card to anyone. Period. You may have had years and years of good credit but all it takes is one missed payment and you're doomed! |

if you were married, your out of luck, the credit you inquire or should I say, lose, is a mutual loss for both partners in the marriage.
If you both signed on for a mutual joint bank account, you are both screwed as well....
the only way you could save yourself is if he made transactions on your account without your approval..If you could angle it that way, I would say he used your cards without permission..........
other than that you are out of luck..
