Actually, you don't really need a credit card to do what you're needing, actually a prepaid debit card like Wired Plastic and account now would better suit your needs
If you withdraw money from a credit card, you're not only charged a fee to withdraw the money, but you're also charged a seperate finance charges in addition to the finance charges for purchases, which will not stop until the balance is completely paid off.
With the AccountNow, it works like a bank account because it's a debit card, but also it has a billpay feature that builds credit as well. So in the case for your rent, you can actually start building credit by simply paying your rent through the billpay service, as well as any other bills you may have as well.
Having firsthand knowledge from working in the credit card industry and using them myself, I would say that secured credit cards are the best option for many reasons.
1. They're the easiest to get because a deposit that's used as collateral is placed upfront. For example, if you deposit $200, then your limit is $200, and so on. There are some "unsecured" credit cards out there that offer low limits, but they charge outrageous fees before the card is even sent, at least with a secured card although you have to put money upfront, at some point later on, you get the deposit back.
2. There's no difference between the two. If you have bad credit, it very unlikely that you will even get approved for a credit card, let alone one with a high limit. With a secured card, you can "custom build" a high limit credit card. And one it's upgraded to a regular card, the leftover deposit could be used to start up an emergency fund.
3. The deposit gives you an incentive to take care of your credit. Since you would have to put money up, it's certain that in order to get it back, you would take care of it the best way possible, right? Well, a secured card teaches you how to use it the right way, since you have something at stake.
I posted several links to some secured cards that should help. In my personal experience, Bank of America offers the best overall secured card |

If you can, try to get a secured credit card through your bank. If you have bad credit this will help alot. Take like $500 to your bank and get a secure credit card with the a $500 limit. After 5-6 months the credit card will become unsecure and you will have the $500 returned to you. This not only helps your credit, but also serves the purpose you are talking about, and if you ever get in a tight spot you have the $500 in a secure account to pay off the creit card. good luck hope this helped! |

What you need to do is check out bad credit credit cards or secured cards. If you use applyfastbankcards to apply for any card you get paid. They have really low interest secure credit cards. |

You can get a pre-paid and they work good OR a secure credit card but most of the time they make you put down at least 200.00 to start. If you have checking account then you should have a visa check card and those can be used for what your needing it for. |
