I can use my bank card but I want to start building credit, and since the shipping charges are going to be paid for by someone else, I figured it would be a good chance to build my credit up this year. credit cards are easy to get and hard to control - be very carful to not get in over your head in debt - i would say the best 1st time card to get would be a pre-paid one you put money in it and only can use that money - if that works well then move on to a regular one. life without credit cards is good - just get a debit card from you bank |

Check out Bankrate.com or other credit card comparison sites..sometimes with a higher rate, you can get rewards points etc. But keep in mind if you don't need a $12,500 limit..don't get it..keep it under $1,500. That should suffice ALL your needs and not get you in trouble should you not pay it off in the first month. |

You are on the right track. Consider a no-fee card with a low credit limit (keeps you honest!). Capital One has fairly loose requirements for new accounts with small credit lines.

You should be able to get a first time credit card if you have had a bank account with no bounced checks and if you have a regular income. Look for credit cards that require poor, fair or average credit or a prepaid or secured credit card. Only apply for a secured credit card if the issuer will eventually offer you an opportunity to qualify for an unsecured card.
