Andrew Y | What credit card should I sign up for? I have no credit history and am a 18 year old student going to college. |
I want to start building credit, but I'm not sure which credit card to sign up for. I would like one with rewards like cash or milage, but there aren't many that will accept no credit...any advice? Additional Details edit: I'm good with paying monthly, and I keep excellent records of how much I spend. I need better advice than just "none" people.
I have a good stable job too. |

If I were you the first credit card I'd get is one through the bank that you have your checking, savings, or loans through. If you show some kind of loyalty to a bank you can use that later on for negotiating power once you earn some credit. A bank will want to keep you as a customer and in a few years you can use that to your advantage to lower your rate and pick up some rewards. |
|

Peace.
 |
I would recommend a debit card instead. That way you wont go crazy with the spending then end up in debt up to your neck... but whatever floats your boat. |

Hi y´all !
|
When I was in college, I took the first one that came my way. It was a Visa, but Master Card is fine too.
Just take it and you will start building up your credit standing.
Cards are very interested in hooking students, because they are their market of the future.
Good luck! |

You are in a good position to establish a strong and high credit score which will influence the rest of your life. Let the credit card companies work for you this time. First, shop the Internet for a credit card with a good interest rate. Don't go in for the teaser introductory rates, they are for fools. Look for a fixed rate which is acceptable. If you don't have established credit then expect around 14-15% which is ok. Second, pay your shool books and other school related cost with the charge card. When you receive your finanical aid check immeidatly pay off the credit card. Do this each semester and at the end of your four years of collage you will have an excellent credit score. This will allow you to change companies with a better interest rate or negoitate for a better interest rate with the company you have. |

well to kick things off, you seem like a responsible person and you seem to have a good grasp on your finances... with a good stable job, its quite a good idea to get a credit card because you can start building your credit... yes, there are companies that do not accept applications if you have no credit, but try to do a little shopping , you'll see that there are also ones that do issue a credit card even if you have bad or no credit... also, to show stability, you can also open a savings/checking account... |

Student credit cards and store credit cards are the way to go when you're starting out:

Although, you can usually ask your bank for a credit card and they can help you out. |

It's true, right now is a great time to start building your credit history. No one can really tell you what is the "right" card to sign up for. It's not really a "one size fits all" type of thing. What you basically want to look for is a card with a low interest rate and not alot of sign on or annual fees. I found this site helpful and it sounds like you could too because they actually have student cards and cards with rewards. You can narrow down your field to look for both and compare offers before applying.

GET THE DISCOVER STUDENT CARD. It is awesome way to build credit. There is no annual fee, and the interest rates are low in case you miss a payment. They also increase your limit every year as you get older. If anything use applyfastbankcards to apply, THEY PAY YOU to use their site. I got $40 when I applied for my discover card! Good luck |
