What do i do with my debt if i'm leaving USA and moving back to Europe?
Hi there,

Here’s the thing. I’m 19 years old and I’ve had 3 family tragedies in the past 6 months. My dad, my grandfather and a cousin (who was like a brother to me) passed away, and to top it all I’ve just been diagnosed with cancer. I only have mom here in US and the rest of my family is back home in Bosnia. It’s gotten to a point that I’m just so damn sick of everything and wanna go back home. I have roughly $ 800 on collection and I owe $1400 to chase bank (they are threatening to send it on collection as well. I have other bills to pay and it seriously feels like I’m drowning in debt. I work full time in retail and get about $500 every 2 weeks. What the heck do I do? Settling or not settling? Getting a loan or.. honestly as much as I’d like to pretend I’m grown up that knows what she’s doing.. I’m not.. just a kid that’s scared as hell and just wanna go home to Europe, get healthy and start a college..

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
Additional Details
I have 1400 dollars with Chase, 500 with Capital one, 600 with Jcpenny credit card.. 250 dolars on collection for suspended license from last year (I left the country and didn’t realize you have to pay the insurance even if your gone) ..and about 300 for T-mobile..

I recently got the letter from collection agency that I owe $ 700.. (not really sure for witch credit card, other thank suspended license debt $ 250)

Depending on what state you are in, check out the statute of limitations on debt collections...some are 4 years, some are 5 years, some are 7 years. If you want to go to europe and get a clean slate, that is how long you would need to stay out of country to avoid a lawsuit and further collections...they can try to attempt to collect after that, but they have no legal recourse after your state's limitations.

I would just go back to europe.

I know everyone is going to 'boo' me but why not get a fresh start.
making 250 a week is NEVEr going to allow you to pay off your bills and you are going to make many more while you are not working to treat your medical challenges.

A new start might be the right thing to do.
There is no debtors prision so you can go without fear of being arrested.
Check the statute of limitiations to see when you can come back to the states without fear of harassment
Once the stress of this is over your recovery will be much faster!

If you settle let them know that part of your settlement is that you want them to take it off your credit. Otherwise, If you settle and don't tell them then it'll still be bad on your credit and you may as well have just let it sit there. You're not as bad off as TONS of other people I know. I wish I only had that much debt. Sorry for your losses and I hope you get better.

try this site!

That's the site I use. I get about an extra $60-$150 a month. It's not one of those spam sites with unrealistic goals like $1500/month or anything but hey...an extra $150 helps right?!) At the end of the month you get a real paper check in the mail.
Go to my yahoo 360 page and read my blog about it for more info or message me if you want more information on it. It really is a good deal. AND it's free to sign up

It is good for your own self esteem to pay your honest debts, so you won't have to spend your life feeling guilty. Just pay the debts down as you can and don't get any more. When you are debt free and have a few dollars ahead you will be ready to move home with a clean conscience.

Hi,
I used " Credit Solution" to settle my debt and improve my credit score. They managed to reduce my debt up to 58%.It's legitimate.I came across this company on NBC News special edition.Check it out here:

Honestly I agree with Lisa...I'd just leave, especially if you don't plan moving back for awhile.

Your debts aren't large enough that they would even consider trying to follow you overseas, not to mention it would be nearly impossible to enforce.

Get your fresh start over there, and move on with your life. If/when you move back to the states, you can always settle up then if you wish.

Regardless of the sad story, you pay off your creditors first - you owe them - they trusted you to lend you money - now it's up to you to reimburse them.

Ask your parents if they can help you. Pay whoever you need to, pack up and leave.
