Do you think they're great gifts for friends, family, etc.? or do you think they're impersonal gifts that makes you feel as though the person who gave you the gift card doesnt know you well enough to get you a real gift? |

I think it is a good solution when you don't know what to get that person (especially if they have everything) It's better to let them pick it out than get them something they wouldn't like. I don't think it's impersonal at all, especially if you give a gift card to their favorite place. |

I think gift cards make great gifts. They're not impersonal at all, especially if they're for a restaurant the person really likes, or book stores, etc. |

Personally I love them!!This way you don't have to feel ungrateful when you have to ask for a receipt for an inappropriate gift.I always make a point of showing them what I got with it as well. |

I really dislike them because it restricts me to shopping only at that store and far too often I've bought something I don't need or don't want just to use the card up. After Christmas I wandered around The Bay (Canadian store) and looked at everything imaginable and really struggled with what to pick out. I would have more enjoyed being taken to lunch that cost $10.00 than the $50.00 card I was given. |

Gift cards are practical in this day and age... especially the Visa or MC branded ones - feel blessed that anyone remebers you enough at all to get you anything - if money you can spend as you choose is not a real gift... then what is ?? |

Cash is better. Giving a person a gift card is like saying, "I like this store, so you have to shop here." It defeats the purpose of shopping for your own gift. |
