What does it mean by Salary £18-20k?

Heather
You will earn 18,000 to 20,000 pounds a year.

Tony BinEye
If you don't know THAT, then I think your aspirations of earning £18-20,000 is a little unrealistic!

if you need to ask the question...don't bother applying for the job ...you will never make it.

That's how much you will earn in a year!! I guess it's £18-20k depending on experience, if your not that experienced you will get £18k, if you know your stuff or have many years experience in the role then you will get more, up to 20k.

Good luck!

Satview
means eightteen to twenty thousand pounds. You alright?

Salary range payable will be between 18 and 20 K depending on your experience etc etc

Steve V
rubbish salary

Diablo
The letter "k" represents "1000"
Therfore 18 - 20k X 1000 = 18000 - 20000 pounds per year

It means the yearly salary for the position varies, with the low end being 18,000 per year, and the high end being 20,000 per year (sorry, I don't have a pound character on my keyboard). Because there is a range of 2,000 pounds, it usually means that if you have little experience and education, you will probably make a salary at the lower end of the range, and if you have a lot of experience and education, you will make a salary at the higher end. Since education is usually roughly the same for a given job, it's the experience a person has which determines if they get paid at the lower or higher end of the range.

Sir Readalot
It means annual salary between 18,000 and 20,000 pounds sterling.

It means "dependant on experience and currently salary we'll pay you 18k - 20k" so for example if you have 10 yrs experience in a similar role and your on 19.5k they'll offer you 20k however if you're fresh outta school and only on 14k they'll offer you 18k

:)

are you serious

a Salary of £18-£20k
generally this means that if you have a great deal of experience in the field you can get upto £20,000 per annum,
but if you have little experience you can get £18,000 per annum,
they tend to start you on a lower to mid of those figures.

to work out what you'll actually take home after tax roughly take off 22% for your tax and NI, and thats basically your take home for the year, (can then divide by 12 or 52 to work out monthly & weekly) it is only a rough guide tho.

iceman
This means that dependant on your experience is what the range of a starting salary will be.
For example in the interview if they beleive that you are exactly what they are looking for (and you pick up on this fact); you can the negotiate the higher end of that scale. However if you think in the interview that you would be lucky just to get the job then go for the lower end.
This is more relevant in the IT industry where you can have 2 colleagues doing the same job but on two very different salaries. Its all about the negotiations in the contract when you agree to take the job.

Cilly Buggah
I think what is bothering you is the 'k'.
This is a 'metric' way of expressing 1000.
So if something costs $50k, it actually means $50,000

As before £18,000 to £20,000. However if for a job and it is followed by letters "OTE" (usually sales/telesales type jobs), this means "On Target Earnings" so you will only actually get this if you hit an agreed sales target, basic salary may be much lower.

cactus
