What exactly is a CCJ?
I mean county court judgement...

The court (a county court) has ordered that you pay some money towards a debt.
If a county court has ordered you to pay an amount of money (called 'having judgment entered against you'), details of the judgment will usually be entered on the Register of county court judgments (called 'registration').

If the debt is paid within one month of the judgment the registration can be cancelled. If the debt is paid after one month, it is possible to apply for the entry in the Register to be marked as ‘satisfied'. Applications to cancel registration or have the entry marked as satisfied must be made to the county court and must be accompanied by proof and payment of a small fee.

Most entries stay on the Register for six full years.

Organisations such as banks, building societies and credit companies use the information on the Register when someone applies for credit such as a loan or overdraft. It helps them decide whether or not that person would be able to pay off the credit.

A county court judgement. It means youv;e renaged on a debt and is rcorded by the court and will affect your credit rating.

CCJs are legal decisions handed down by County Courts. Judgments for monetary sums are entered on the Register of County Court Judgments, which is checked by credit reference agencies to assess the credit-worthiness of individuals.

Well, it is what it says on the tin, a judgement made against you by the court for a debt which affects your credit rating until it is paid off, then you could have trouble getting a mortgage or a credit card or HP or anything along those lines, in order to obtain any finance, you might be forced to deal with unscrupulous loan sharks who charge exorbitant rates of interest, like the Chinese Mafia, the Yakuza, loans 4U.com or the Halifax, but that's just speculation!

It is a ruling a judge made. Meaning, if they make a judgment that you need to pay a card company back...you have to do it by law.
If you or someone you know is being called in for a CCJ, you may want to talk to an attorney.

If you owe someone money, the creditor can take out a CCJ against you, if you pay them the money you owe, no further action is taken.

If you don't pay thn there is a simple hearing in private, you don't have to attend if you don't want to, whether you attend or not, the court will decide on the evidence whether you are 'guilty' or 'innocent'.

If guilty, the court will decide how you should repay the debt.

For further information on what steps to take if you have a CCJ taken out against you, read my link.

There is a problem with Yahoo links at the moment, if this does not work, there is a full explanation on Google.

adding on to derke's answer. Having ccj's affect yoour credit rating and if you have one against (you dont pay the debt off) then it will stay on your file for 3 years? may be shorter now but it used to be.

Having ccjs can stop you getting more credit and a mortgage.
