What happens if I dont pay back my credit card?
I haven't paid on my credit card for over 7 months. At first I owed $6,900 USD & now they say I owe $9,000 USD & I just owe it on one card & that is American Express. I explained to the credit card company my situation but they still sent it to a collection agency & they were calling me of course & then I sent them a certified letter telling them not to call me anymore & gave the reason why I couldn't pay. I also owe a cell phone bill that I got duped into accepting in which I cancelled & the cell phone company lied about the contract & now want money for cancelling. I don't have the money to pay them back. I don't have a house or lots of money in the bank, I am on SSi because I am disabled & I was just wondering what they could do to me. They haven't sued because I think it would be a waste of time like I told them, for them to try to sue if they couldn't get anything from me anyways. Is it just going to affect my credit, that is it & fall off in seven years, what will likely happen?

I think for the most part they can't do anything. I've been in the same situation before. We've had stuff fall off after 7 years or had them removed if they "forgot." Even though they fall off, you still obligated to pay.

One of our accounts, my husband worked and they garnished. I am pretty sure they can't garnish the SSI. Even if they sue you, you can't pay so they can't really do anything.

Your credit is going to be bad though, but that's what you are expecting.

It's unfortunate, I know how you feel. I was doing good for a period of time until I got sick and was unable to work.

They will sell it off to a collection agency, and so on and so on until the last agency will take pennies on the dollar. My advice is to tell them all to shove it. Change your phone number to stop being bugged, file the letters in the trash, but whatever you do, DO NOT CONTACT THEM. The statue of limitations varies from state to state, but average is about four years. You will be surprised, because these predatory banks will start sending you offers for more credit cards, even if you file for bankruptcy!

unless you plan to live off the grid for the next 9 years or not plan to get any service that involves a credit check (good luck), you'll be fine.

They wont sue you, but you will never own another credit card in your life.

,May not do anything now but they will keep track of you and if you ever start getting ahead in life they will make sure to come after you then

It is possible that the collections agencies can sue you but they probably won't at least not now... the problem is that they will call you and call you and call you no matter what you tell them. And this can come up on your credit after seven years... the good news is that you can usually haggle with collections agencies and end up paying 1/5 of what you owe now. and they are usually pretty good about payment plans. They just want their money and getting it is all they do.... Be careful because depending on how much you owe eventually they may be able to reposes things that you already own from your car to your tv. The only way this will go away completely without you paying is declaring bankruptcy.

My boyfriend stopped paying on 2 of his credit cards over 3 years ago. Discover gave up and went on with their lives after about 9 months. He owed about 3,000 on that one. He owed about 1,000 on Visa and they still bug us every now and again. They've passed it on to a collection agency and that agency passed it on to another agency and so on. I think they're on like the 5th agency now. About once every couple of months they send a collection bill which gets tossed in the trash. We don't answer the phone when a 1-800 number calls cause we know it's them. If you never answer their calls or return their letters for all they know you could have moved.

That's one way to rob the bank. You can't spend someones money without paying for it. Where is the moral issue here?

If you know you're on disability and can't afford to pay for bill, you shouldn't rack it up to $ 6000. You now do owe them $9000. Keep it up and you'll never get a loan anywhere else.

thankfully you don't live in the U.S. keep your irresponsibility in your own country.

you can't rack up bills and play the "disable" card. Now your marked & if you own anything, it's succeptable to being taken away.
