it can't believe some of the unhelpful answers you've had so far!
as the loan is unsecured your house won't be directly at risk. if you plan to stop paying them the first bit of advice is to make sure you have a current account with another bank for you income and direct debits etc, otherwise they can get your income.
ultimately if you don't make the payments they will send it to their legal department to try and recover, or renegotiate payments, if you ignore this or they can't trace you etc they may sell the debt on to a collection agency (note that collection agencies/debt collectors do NOT have the powers of court bailiffs ie. breaking into your home/seizing your goods)
but that depends on the amount concerned, if the loan is for £1000's rather than £100's they will be more likely to take it to the county court and get a county court judgement against you (CCJ), a district judge will probably ask you for a financial statement, ie. what income you have and what bills you pay, and then tell you how much you should repay the bank each week or month - this could be direct to the bank or an attachment of earnings from your wages. If you do not have any available income, but do have your own home the bank may ask for a charging order which simply means if you sell your house at a later date they get their money from the sale before you get any of the equity which was in the house.
All of the above will affect your credit rating, but this definitely does not mean you wouldn't be able to get credit again in the future. ( or even now with some companies!)
my best advice would be to get some help to negotiate an affordable repayment plan with the bank, and the likelihood is that you have other debts like utility bills etc so best to get sorted now.
you can go to your local CAB for debt advice and can ask to be seen by the debt workers http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/ or alternately the charity consumer credit counselling offer a similar service but by phone and email http://www.cccs.co.uk/ and for details of a genuine debt management company you can try http://www.payplan.com/ which was set up by the credit industry and provides free help and advice on debt.
All the best. Rebecca x

They will take you to court to get their money back.

♪♫Tweedle Dee♪♫
Creditors will hound you day and night and send your account to collections and damage your credit history and score and depending on how large the amount, they can sue you.

Jo&Adi
They will take you to court and get a liability order which is basically the court saying that you are liable for the amount owed. You can usually fob them off by offering a pittance per week.
If you still don't pay some big burly monkeys in suits will come round in a white van and remove any of your furniture that they can sell. Your stuff will then be sold at auction and the amount raised will be deducted off what you owe.
Oh and it will screw up your credit rating too so no more loans, catalogues, store cards etc. Will stay on your credit file for 6 years X

Ahwell
They take you to court.

first is the mind treat then the literal threat then you owe £3000.0000 more than you originally owed trust me its legal and a darn fine thing for rich people. but they don't need loans as you have just paid their wages.

Robert R
They sue you. You get ordered to pay and they eventually take your stuff. And you will never get another car/home loan again.

david.mcauliffe123@btinternet.com
you will probably find the baliffs calling round and taking your stuff
