actually putting 650 per month towards 20k @ 30% interest pays 150 per month off the balance. It will take 5 years to pay off the balance @ 650 per month assuming you stop using the card. Right now there is a serious problem with Credit in this country. America is on the verge of bankruptcy as you see the government has been injecting lots of money to keep some of these companies from collapsing. China just gave 5 billion dollars to morgan stanley. The arabs just gave 7.5 billion to Citibank. America is being sold off peice by piece right now because people wont pay your bills like they promised. Do the right thing and live up to the contract that you SIGNED with YOUR family name and keep your honor. |

If you don't pay, the following can happen:
1. Your credit rating gets trashed to the point where you will not be able to get credit or a loan in the future.
2. They will turn it over to collection people who will be a pain in the a$$ to deal with.
3. They can sue you. If they win a judgment, they can garnish your wages.
If this company absolutely will not cut you a break on the interest rate, I would recommend finding a card where you can transfer the balance at a lower rate. If your credit rating/high balances eliminates that option, talk to your bank about a personal loan. If that isn't an option, contact a debt relief/credit counseling service (a legit one---watch out for the scams.)
Is there any possible way you can bring in more money to help pay this down? If you ignore it, the interest and fees will just continue to grow. You really need to convince them to freeze the account and help you work out a payment plan.
The absolute last option is filing for bankruptcy. This will cost you a lawyer fee. If you have absolutely no means to repay the debt, you can file Chapter 7 which will wipe out the debt. If the judge decides that you can handle a repayment plan, you will file Chapter 13 and the creditors will not be able to add on additional interest and fees at that point. |

Unfortunately, you signed up for that credit and now you are responsible for paying it. You haven't paid back what you borrowed until you pay it all off.
Your credit will continue to be crap with that kind of attitude. Why not take responsibility for your actions? The reason you probably are only getting "10 bucks toward the balance" is because your probably making your payments late or missing payments.
if you don't pay, then your credit will just continue to get worse and worse. In addition the creditor could get a judgment on what you owe and attach it to your house or other real property. In addition if they get a judgment, they could garnish your wages.
Why not call the credit company and explain your situation. That you just can not pay and make an agreement with them. Ask if you can make a weekly/bi weekly or monthly minimum payment and in the meantime ask them to stop accruing interest. Many companies will do this, you just have to "man up" and make the call.
Its not their reposibility to help you, you have to do this on your own. |

With respect, you should pay the debt that you incurred. I am responsible and pay off my credit cards monthly. It's part of my overall plan for wealth. It's really about integrity. You incurred the debt; you should pay your debt.
You accepted the terms of the credit card issuer. The issuer isn't lending you money for free. You do understand that; don't you? It's a loan!!!
Perhaps, you should talk to a debt counselor and get some help to negotiate with the credit card issuers to get a better interest rate. That is possible. But, if you declare bankruptcy, that will be with you for years and years and years. |

You get sued.
They get a judgement.
They try to take your bank balance and garnish your wages.
What possessed you to borrow $20K in the first place? |

Is it an unsecured loan? Or can they take your car, house or boat?
To get rid of credit cards we took out a personal loan, not a credit card. With a fixed rate. Paid them all off and made payments. Other wise you never get them paid off.
Credit cards are just to easy to run up. Cut them up. |

go to a credit consolidating company so they can put all debts together and you only pay one interest rate |

You should call Consumer Credit Counseling Services at 1-800-388-2227 they are the largest credit counseling service in the nation and are non profit.
You can not run from this large a debt, they will sue you, get a judgment and then they can attach bank accounts, garnish wages (if your State allows it) and file liens on any property you may own like cars, boats, land and homes.
This will all show on your credit for the next 7-years making it very hard to get any other types of loans without paying massive down payments, huge fees and State maximum interest rates. |

The credit card company can sue you to get their money back. They'll do it, too. They didn't get to be billion dollar organizations by letting folks get away from paying up. In fact, you are a prized posession to them - someone who's going to pay for a LONG time. Someone who pays their bills on time isn't really a friend to the CC company but they get peace of mind and a good credit score in return.
You may figured you paid them but they're figuring you haven't. You really HAVE to pay the bill unless you file bankruptcy. Even that's getting tough to do. The problem with bankruptcy is that you have to state it on EVERY credit application you fill out in the future - there's always that question, "have you ever filed for bankruptcy". The other problem with bankruptcy is that you CANNOT file file for another seven years or so and if you rack up bills again, you're on the hook. Bankruptcy comes in a couple of varieties - one where you take inventory of all your valuables (car, big screen, guitar, etc) and it's sold and the proceeds go towards those you owe. Once the stuff runs out, you're done and off the hook. The other kind let's you keep the car and home (if you have one) but you'll come up with a payment plan to pay back your creditors. They'll forgive parts of the amount you owe. Both methods will kill your credit.
Given that you don't seem to care about the credit score, bankruptcy may be the way out for you. Having a trashed credit score is also very bad since it hinders you from getting a loan for a home and car, getting an apartment (since management companies look at the score), getting decent insurance rates (insurance companies now look at credit ratings). |
