What happens if you write too many bad checks?

As long as you pay them and no one reports you to the police, nothing will happen. For instance, if you write one every six months but you make good on it right away with the person that you gave it to, you will most likely be fine. The key is to make good on it right away. If you don't make good on it and let's say you have 30 of them out there for 10 grand, your *** could land in jail.

edit* The person above me said that it will affect your credit, this is not neccessarily true. If you write a thousand bad checks to your brother, nothing will happen. If you write bad checks to your cell phone company, it will only ding your credit in the event that you didn't pay the bill in an adequate amount of time, like 90 days. Writing a bad check on its own will not affect your credit...trust me on this one.

The fees will eat you alive and your account gets charged off and sent to a collection agency. Your credit will suffer.

shano 2006
Id guess you'd accrue a lot of fees - given that generally banks charge you for bad checks and if word gets around town people wont trust you.

Julie-Anne
You could go to jail- it's called fraud.

You get a free photo session at your local jail. Your mom can view your pic in the local news paper.
It will hurt your credit and your reputation,
you will have trouble getting a decent job.
It will cost you pride, self esteem and dignity.
You will not know how dear the cost till it is too late.
It is more expensive than you could ever dream off!
U could very well get jail or prison time.
Some day you will have kids and imagine explaining to them what you did and they look at you and asked why?
You will embarass and hurt your family as well.
That is what happens when you write bad checks

You go to jail. It's against the law!

contact your bank and the people you wrote the checks to and make payment arrangements. Then nothing will probably happen if you pay them off as you agree to

Chattur Maina
Well it is going to affect your credibility, but did you mean cheques that you cancell and rewrite or you meant cheques that bounce..?
The second one can put your credit rating in a ditch..

it depends on the bank, but as long as you pay them back it shouldn't be a problem. and i'm sure the bank will inform you before they take legal actions like trying to send you to jail

Tim
Hopefully you'll be forced to pay restitution.

Ypu go to jail and no longer allowed to write any more checks because banks check that before they allow you to open an account with them.
