Well I see we need to educate everyone once again.

When a debtor passes away, the creditors will first attempt to collect the debt was any cosigners or joint account holders, and if there are none then the estate would be responsible.

A spouse MIGHT be responsible for the debt, if you live in a community state. Not all community property states have the same laws though, so you would need to research your state.

Beyond that, your loved ones are NEVER responsible for your debts when you die, HOWEVER many sleazy creditors and collection agencies will try to bully or trick you into assuming responsibility for those debts. DO NOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!

When my father died, our attorney advised us that anything that was in just his name didn't need to be paid back.
Sure they could make a claim on the estate, but most companies don't for small debts.
They will try to convince you to take over the debt, but unless you feel morally obligated, if your name is not a "co" on it, your not legally obligated.

they will attempt to get it from your estate.

The bank will try to sell your organs and if they can't collect enough they will dig you up periodically to make sure that you still don't have any money.

They take the silver out of your hair.
the gold out of your teeth, and
the lead out of your behind
And take your house for what's left.

It is not a good idea. The law abiding citizens will pay for it. How would you feel if you had to pay for someone's crazy idea?
What if your first assumption goes wrong that is you really get extension from angels upstairs on your one month limit? Everything will be repossessed then, and you may be escorted to a place where you don't get to see daylight.

They sell your estate (your house, your car, your insurance polices, and the other stuff) and then the government is tired of people in debt.

Shareholders in the banks you screwed and the banks customers who will end up paying higher rates for loans and getting less interest on thier savings accounts

They go to your estate. Your family does not owe the debt, unless their name happens to be on the loan or loans with you. If it is a joint account, they would go to the other person on the loan, or a community property state. ***

Different states have different laws about debt and about estate matters. If you're married often your spouse pays. If you're not married then all your debts will be settled by your estate. If you own property then your debtors will come after your estate to try and get their money back. If you own nothing then there isn't much they can do. However if you have the credit rating for an unlimited credit card I would assume you have some type of property.

Basically you'll be creating a huge mess for whomever is left behind to take care of your affairs (whether that be a parent, spouse, sibling, good friend, your lawyer, etc.). If you have absolutely no one to put through this and no property there's not much your creditors can do after you're dead. Just make sure you're actually going to die. My uncle was given 3 months to live, has a radical, last chance surgery, and 15 yrs later is still going strong.

Who knows, basically all the answers below. Not a good idea to do this. It is illegal, and they can come after these assets, and whoever inherited them.

Your family I would suspect would pay for any outstanding bills you have.

Your legal heirs are responsible for your debt. Whoever deals with your legal affairs after your death will have to handle your debts.....It could be your parents if you are not married, or it could be your spouse if you are married. Do the right thing!!! If you love your people, don't get in financial trouble!!!
The same way you can leave your loved ones a fortune upon your death is the same way you can leave your loved ones in a ton of trouble.

I think they make ur family pay for what you owe

BUT if they're dead too then I think they just cancel out that debt

Your surviving relatives will be hounded to pay your debt.
Especially if you owe the I.R.S.

Well, if you have life insurance that would hopefully cover all of it. But if your debt exceeded your insurance payout first off seeing as how you put that stuff on the credit card, technically the credit card company owns it, just like a loan. Therefore it would be sold to pay off the debt.

Any other debts your family is responsible for. What if you don't have family? No clue!
