1. pay it on time (and don't pay the minimum)
2. Look at interest rates (if your interest is 10% and you pay 100 dollars.. 10 dollars goes toward interest and 90 dollars toward your credit card... watch that)
3. I read that if you dont pay it in 30 dyas your credit score will drop 60 points.
4. I dont have a credit card so I don't know! My debit card is my credit card except im paying NOW not later :) |

hey, get a gas card, and use it to buy your gas for your car.
Pay it off every month in full, and you're golden in two years! |

If you have never had credit before, chances are you will only be eligible for the most basic card (no rewards). When I was in college I got bombarded with college credit card applications. These tend to have lower credit lines (at least at first), but with the limited income most college students have, they usually still get approved. You should look for a card with a low interest rate and no annual fee. Think especially right now about if you ever plan to carry a balance on the card. If you do, you should really search for a low interest card. However, I highly encourage you to not ever carry a balance from one month to the next (interest costs are HUGE on credit cards). As a college student, if you are short on living money, you are better off getting an extra loan to cover costs, than piling debt on a credit card because generally the interest costs will be lower.
Also, make sure you are not late with monthly payments because the late fees and interest adds up very quickly. After you have had a card for awhile and built up come credit history, I would look into the reward cards. You can get cash back or points for prizes, but these cards are usually not available unless you had credit in the past and have a good history. |

pay off in full every month if you can. at least make minimum payment plus whatever you can in order to not pay full interest.
even if you make double payment in month 1, you still need to make a minimum payment in month 2. call the number given for customer service if you have any problems. try not to go crazy with the credit card purchases. do ont buy anything you cannot afford if you don't need to. my visa is now for fixing my cars only. i got into debt because i went a little nuts a few years ago. I'm really good now. one good way to build credit up is to purchase something on the card when you have the cash. as soon as you get the bill-pay it and mail it back immediately. you do this and you'll see your credit line amount increase. good luck and use responsibly. |

4- What is the default rate when you're late on your payment?
5- How much does it cost if you go over the credit line?
6- Grace period (means how many days between the billing date and due date)
7- Any rewards when you use the card.
8- Car Rental Loss & Damage Insurance§ and Travel Accident Insurance
9-Emergency Assistance Services and Emergency Roadside Assistance
10-Retail Protection, and Extended Warranty coverage on purchases made with the card ...
11- Transaction fee for ATM and cash advance. Don't take cash advance if you can help it because it's always at the much higher rate.

Credit cards are an important means of establishing credit history. Using them responsibly, controlling your spending habits and not misusing them will always help the cause. Here are few things to keep in mind before you apply for a credit card.
It is always better to use a credit card which is issued in your name. The simple reason being, it helps establish credit history for you. Use the correct identity, and get credit card issued for proper name, social security number, and address.
Decide what type of credit card you need and don't get impulsive about obtaining it. Have patience and compare various offers that suit your choice.
The APR of credit card is a very important point not to be missed by any credit card owner. There are various types of APRs, like the 0 intro APR, regular APR, APR for cash advances, APR for purchases, APR for balance transfer etc. These APR contro what interest you pay on your credit card outstanding balances. Get compelte idea about the APRs that will affect you during your credit card ownership.
If you are getting a reward credit card, make sure you know how the rewards will be redeemed and using the credit card at what locations or merchants will help you get the maximum reward benefits. Another thing to watch out is the limitations to the reward program. Check carefully about what limits the rewards like minimum reward points, blackout dates, redemption locations, choice of airlines etc. Read more from: http://www.credit-card-gallery.com/article/342,7_essential_things_to_watch_before_you_apply_for_a_credit_card |

wow, outstanding and a very responsible question. Here's my tips, 20 years of hindsite, to you so just to help you out. When you get a card use no more than 50% of the credit limit, pay the min payment plus alttle extra or pay off every month if you can. As your credit takes off you will get a lot of offers in the mail, read all the fine print about annual fees, and any other fees they may be charging and if there is a really low "initial" rate but they could be "teasers", and hold back from taking on alot of credit and finally mail those payments as they get there before the due to avoid those very expensive lates charges (even just one day), spend very wisely so you dont get in over your head, it can happen fast. I wanted to take my friends and party, but we had long graduated and I was still paying it back.
I put the websites of the 3 major credit bureau. You are entitled 1 from each per year. These are free, dont fall into any that want you to join a program. And the fair credit reporting act so you know rights as a consumer.
hope it helps |
