What is a debit card?
what is the difference between a debit and credit card?

A debit card is a plastic card which provides an alternative payment method to cash when making purchases. Physically the card is an ISO 7810 card like a credit card, however its functionality is more similar to writing a check as the funds are withdrawn directly from the cardholder's bank account; some cards are referred to as check cards.

A prepaid debit card is a great solution for a lot of people because the money you spend is your own and in most cases you cannot spend over the amount you have in your account.

This is a good solution for people who may have had difficulties with debt or bankruptcy in the past because a prepaid debit card is a great tool for developing invaluable financial management and budgeting skills.

A major bonus of some prepaid debit cards today is that during the sign-up process you are offered an opportunity to sign up for an additional service that will help you rebuild a bad credit history by having your monthly payments reported to one or more of the major credit reporting agencies.

Subsequently, each month your card's issuer credit reporting partner will process your payment record and verify that your payment is properly posted to the credit bureaus' records.

There is a small additional fee involved for this service each month, however, the fees are minimal by comparison to the sometimes outrageous fees and interest payment some credit card companies charge people with bad credit.Read more about it at: http://www.credit-card-gallery.com/article/62,How_A_Prepaid_Debit_Card_Can_Help_You_Rebuild_Your_Credit

A debit card is tied to money you actually have and a credit card is just tied to credit meaning you don't necessarily have to have the funds at the moment you use it but you will have to pay for it.

A debit card takes money directly from your bank's checking account right after you buy it. A debit card is like a check that clears right away. A credit card charges you for things and then sends you a statement telling you what you owe. You can pay it off monthly with interest.

It is a card that is linked with your checking account and takes money directly out of your checking account just as if you were writing a check, but without you having to actually write a check. It functions like a credit card, but it only pulls from the money you actually have in your checking account.

Debit is money automatically withdrawn, credit usually takes a couple of days to go through. Both of these can be linked to your bank account. A credit card is something entirely different.

Debit: they take money directly from your account when you buy something. You need to enter your PIN code.
Credit: the company pays for what you buy, and bills you at the end of the month. You need to sign a receipt.

Note that some debit cards have a "credit" option, which allows you to use the card with a signature rather than a PIN. This may be called credit, but it is still a debit card.

Debit card takes the amount of purchase immediately out of your checking account.
Credit card lets you charge the purchase but then you must pay for the charge at end of month or incur finance charges.
People get into most trouble financially with overspending with credit cards and buying when they don't have the money to pay for the purchase.

A debit card is attached to your checking account and you can only use it for the amount that you have in your checking or your overdraft protection. While a credit card they set you up with a limit (say $500) and you borrow against it and pay it back in either instalment or more. The debit card doesnt charge you interest, while a credit card will. they are both widely accepted anywhere their logo is (visa or mastercard)

A debit card is linked to a bank account and when used money is removed from the bank account.
A credit card is linked to credit which is virtual money. When you use a credit card - you are spending money that you do not have.

A debit card has the same advantages of a credit card ie: internet purchasing but with a debit card you have to have the money in the account to cover purchases whereas a credit card is like borrowing money, and you have to pay it back.

A debit card is used to pull funds from your checking or savings account electronically. This can be done online or at any retailer who accept your particular card. You can only take out up to whatever you have in your account at the time. A Credit card is used to buy something on credit. Charge it now pay later + interest. Debit card is like using cash, Credit card is like getting it for nothing until the bill comes in from the lender....
