Hasani F | What is a debit card, and how do you use it? |
I also want to know how to use it online. |

It is called a debit card, because it debits money from your account--usually your checking. You use it the same as a credit card, and despite popular belief, you CAN go into the negative with a debit card and be charged fees (unfortunately that is how banks make a lot of money.) But, you can use it online just like a credit card. You can also use it in stores, and resturants (anywhere you can use a credit card) With a debit card, you have to enter a pin (secret code) when you use it. And just so you know, you can use the credit card option when you purchase, and it will work the same way, only you dont have to enter a pin--you just have to sign. |

A debit card is a bank card that you get when you open up an account. All the major banks carry this card for their customers. It basically replaces cheques. You can pay by swiping your card with the cashier when you pay. It requires you to punch in a 4 digit pin number that only you make up when you activate your card with the bank. It's very easy to pay, it's handier than having cash. You cannot use it like a credit card, it comes out of your account instantly, so you have to have the cash in your account to purchase. There is a daily limit to what you can purchase with your debit card, this is basically for your protection, in case someone steals your card. It's probably $1000/day or something like that. You can use it only too, it works basically the same. Although, I wouldn't suggest giving out any number on-line, it isn't really that safe, even if they say it is. I don't give my visa or mastercard number on-line either. The debit card is accepted almost everywhere you see the interac sign. |

It's like a credit card, but it can't go into overdraft
You use it online the same as you would a credit card, you provide the Card Number, and the site will withdraw however much you owe them from the card
They're a good option if you can't afford to be paying the high interest on Credit Cards |

A debit card is connected with your bank account. Money will be deducted from your account whenever you pay for something. You can use it to pay for gas, food, etc. To use it online, enter the account number, expiration date and select which card you're using (VISA, MasterCard, Discover, etc.) |

A Debit card must be maintained just like you are writing checks. There is now what is called Felony Debiting.
Which is when you over draft your bank account (and your bank will let you do this and charge you $35.00 for each draft)
If you don't pay the bank + all charges, or if the bank sends it back unpaid, it is the same as a bounced check.
You will need a bank register to keep track of all transactions and bank charges. |

Comes right out of your checking account & usually has a pin#.
It CAN be used on the internet just like a regular credit card, in fact when asked if its a credit or debit I always say credit to save myself .25 for the transaction. (only if you have a credit card icon on the debit though.) |

never use a debit card online it is linked directly to your bank account!!! trust me. get a credit card and then pay the credit card off its alot safer than a debit card |

It's basically a credit card, that is attached to your checking or savings account. It makes life so much easier and safer not carrying cash. They call it a debit card cause the funds are taking away from your account. Happy spending! |

A debit card is a card that is linked to your checking/saving account...you use it whenever you don't have cash in your wallet. When you pay, you just slide it in the machine at the checkout, and press debit, and then enter your pin number... |
