What is a good APR for a credit card?
Also what is a normal monthly payment for a purchase of $1200. I know it depends on many factors, but what would I be looking at?

Don't use a store credit card. get a bank card from visa or mastercard, their interest is lower. I would venture that on a 1,200 dollar purchase you would pay about 4% of the purchase price. Maybe a bit less.

Try getting a credit card form a credit union.
My Visa Classic Card is only 13.9% (and I have fair credit). In a few years when my credit gets better I'll upgrade to a Platinum Card with an APR of 9.9%.

Currently my credit card company calculates my monthly payment to be $0.03 for every dollar bowered. So a $1200 balance would have a minimum payment of $36 (or so). But I recommend that you always pay more than the minimum amount due.

Credit Unions generally have better rates that everyone else and you get really good member service. Check out the ones in your area that will allow you to join. Payments are usually 2% to 3% of you balance. They have to be more that what your monthly interest rate is. If the store you are making the purchase at allows 0% for 12 months, do it and pay $100.00 per month (these are my favorites). You are right there are a lot of factors. If you have excellent credit you will be able to get the best rates.

i work for discover card a good apr is between 9 ta 13 percent but i still get people who complain the minnimum paymnt would be about 24 dollars but it all depends on ur apr if it is high youll want to pay more or all your payment will be going towards ur intrest.

5.99% is a good APR
$15 is a good payment.

10-13%. My guess on monthly payment is $30?

Stay away from Bank of America....they offer promotions and then turn around and change your APR from 3.99% to 32.240%, stating they had a system glitch. I was late back in February and they changed this on my October statement because of the glitch.

The Bird
Your APR should match the number of credit cards you have--zero. If you want something that costs $1200, you should save the money first and then decide whether you want it enough to part with your life savings.

Prime rate plus 2% points would be ideal. That would mean 8-9% these days. Hard to find, but still the best rate. I would suggest negotiating below 10%, depending on your credit rating. Also monthly payment on $1200 wold depend on how quickly you want to pay it off. Suggest payments at least $50 to not negatively amortize your balance.

Don't get a credit card. Use cash. If you don't have cash try getting a signature loan. Credit cards are trouble.
