What is a good credit card I can get where I don't have to pay a monthly fee?
What is a good credit card I can get where I don't have to pay a monthly fee? Does Capitol One have one? If so, which one is it? I don't want a store one like JC Penny's or something like that!

The type of credit card that you're looking for is going to depend on what your credit looks like. Being that I make decisions on to approve or deny people when they apply for credit cards, I have firsthand experience in this.

If you don't have any credit or your credit isn't very good, then your selection for cards like that are very limited. The better your score is, the more credit cards that are out there that have lower interest rates, better rewards, and don't have monthly or annual fees.

Citi, Chase, Bank of America, Discover, American Express, and even Capital One offer decent cards. Companies you need to stay away from is First Premier, Tribute, New Millenium, Continental Finance are cards that charge fees before the card's even received.

Some of the posters on here said that credit cards are bad. That's only the case when someone abuses it or is not properly educated on them. My sugesstion if you're going to get a credit card, I would apply for a secured credit card. They're the easiest to get because a deposit which is used as collateral is placed upfront. For example, you deposit $300, your credit line is $300. Sometimes the deposit is linked to a savings account, so it can earn interest while you're building credit, so the deposit isn't just sitting there. A secured card does several things. It builds credit just like a regular credit card, it creates a means for savings because of the deposit, and most importantly it teaches how to manage the account responsibly because the deposit would be at stake. Mismanage the card by not paying on time, you lose the deposit. You'd tend to be more careful on using the card knowing that your own money's at stake if you don't. A key to using not just a secured card, but ANY credit card is to make purchases you know that you can pay off. A perfect way would be to purchase no more than $20 a month, pay it off on time and then increase the limit by adding to the deposit. Another benefit of secured credit cards is that there's more control over the limit, so it can be raised by simply adding to the deposit, which can help your score because higher limits create a cushion between the available credit you have and total debt that's owed. And usually after a year of keeping the balance paid off on time, the card upgrades to a regular card and more importantly, the deposit isn't needed anymore and it's given back to you. Credit will have been established with a credit card with a decent limit, along with an emergency fund started up from the left over deposit. I posted several links below to some secured cards.

Hopefully this will help

Yes Capital One has no annual fee credit cards. Call and tell them that is what your looking for.

If you are talking about a monthly fee they charge regardless of whether you have a debt balance (such as a "participation fee"), then MOST credit cards do not charge such a fee -- the fee is the exception. Just read the fine print of the application to see.

you can try many banking web sites, just google credit cards applications and you will get many offers.

most don't have annual fees the most I"ve ever seen is $2.50 per year. Monthly fees are called bills, they're sent so you can pay off the balance that you have accumulated over the past month, if you pay them off within the 'grace period' then you don't pay any interest fees on them. Otherwise, get a shovel, it gets deep faster then you think.

Only if you qualify for a 0 annual fee? First you need to get you credit score and report so you will know where you stand. If your credit is bad or if you have no credit history then you will have a monthly fee of $6-$10.

credit cards are bad. even the ones without fees are going to cost you plenty. you usually can't get one with favorable rates unless you are rich or have stirling credit

Consider a debit card at a credit union. Scraoe and scrounge for a few months and put every cent you get in teh bank and soon you will have a pleasing amount of cash in the bank to fund your card purchases

CAPITAL ONE BLOWS!!! i just recently did a balance transfer to Discover and i've been extremely satisfied, and their customer service is pleasant as well :)

thenicholsfam01
don't get a credit card! They are evil, there will be the extremely poor, who owe debt to the extremely rich who own you! If you don't have the money for something now, why do you think you'll have the money later with an additional 10-30% fee on it.

Theres always a monthly fee. Its a loan and you agreed to pay back so I dont see how there cant be a monthly fee.

Get a credit card and dont even use it so your balance is 0 so you wont have a monthly fee.
