What is a payday loan? Is it worth it?

A payday loan is a very short term loan. You give the place a postdated check for the amount of the loan, plus a fee (someplace from $7 - $60 or higher) and they give you a check to take to your bank and cash right away. They cash your check on your payday.

A site I've recommended in the past would be...

Hope that helps.

I've made a pawn shop alot of money doing this. It sucks but when you have no other choice ...you do what you have to do. I then started taking out collateral loans. You take something that is of value to the pawn shop (jewelry...etc) & borrow against it. If you quit making payments against the loan, they keep the item of value. Otherwise, when you've paid off the amount you borrowed against that item, you then get it back. I felt this was a better deal & worked out a little better for me.

It's horrendously expensive. The APR ranges from 350-700%!

Consider a small loan from your credit union or small loan company, an advance on pay from your employer, or a loan from family or friends.

Someone who has a steady job will almost always be able to find someone to loan him/her money at a high interest loan. About the only way I can think this would be a good idea is if you are expecting a sum of money in the next few days so you can pay them back and never deal with them again, and then only for a reason like keeping from becoming homeless and losing your job. If you develop a good credit rating, and some money in the bank for emergencies, this would never happen to you. If you can save $10.00 a week (one or two meal(s) at a fast food place would give you $5,200.00 at the end of the year. You can then start putting money away for retirement, and next thing you know you're a solid citizen who doesn't pay interest, you collect it.

It is an expensive method of borrowing a little money short term. Worth it depends on why you need it and if you can afford to repay as agreed.
If you say had a flat tire, no cash and no credit cards and the person selling tires wouldn't take a check paying for a payday loan would be worth it even if it cost $45 loan fee to borrow $100 for 10 days if it saved you 100 in towing fees and a night in a motel and a day's lost work.
Getting your drunken husband bailed out of jail wouldn't be worth it.

a very high interest short term loan on your paycheck. It is not worth it unless your going to die (really die )during the week

You pay the money back you borrowed on your next pay check. Probly not worth it due to high interest, but if you really need the money now why not?
