File Chapter 13 and your credit score will go up almost instantly because they know that you cannot file again in 5 years.

1.) Make a settlement or payment arrangements with all bad debt or past due accounts
2.) Make sure the creditor reports this action in writing to the 3 main repositories and you.
3.) Open up a credit card and pay the balance off monthly.
4.) If you don't think you can get approved for a card, there are secured credit cards that will help you re-establish a good payment history with them.
5.) Do not trust anyone with your social security number, and do not let anyone pull your credit without your written consent.

A good thing to do is sign up for equifax's score watch, or the other respositories might have similar programs.

Good Luck, and be persistent. The more you challenge (in writing, and the creditor has 30 days to respond, if they don't the trade line can legally be removed from your credit report), the more your score will improve.

Basically, I'm sorry to say, since they've taken bankruptcy away from us, pay it all off no matter how long it takes and wait seven years from that. otherwise you're screwed, debtors don't care about WHY and you have NO friends at any bank ever PERIOD.

You can up your points by 100 by increasing your capacity. That is to have 5 credit cards at the minimum, but don't use them. The more cards you have at a low balance shows you can have credit granted but not abuse it. Take advantage of those CC offers, but don't max them. It is the quickest way to jump your score.

Pay at least all your minimum payments on time. Pay off anything small that you can afford to pay off now, but don't close the accounts after you pay them off. In the future if you have medical expenses, always send them money every time they send you a bill, even if it's only $10. I am not sure if it's true but I heard as long as you are paying something that they can't send you to collections.

you have 2 choices....you can either file bankruptcy and start completely over, or you can just work at repairing your credit, which means getting a credit card or two.....making small purchases on them and paying them on time....my least favorite cards are citibank and chase.....if you are late one day, they crank up the interest rate skyhigh.....my daughter learned the hard way and was paying over 30% interest!!! Good luck, and i hope you feel better:)

Reapir credit score
Your credit score is based mostly on:

1. Length of credit history
2. Payment history.
3. Ratio of credit used to available credit.
4. Number of credit inquiries you authorized.

If you cancel your card, you'll be hurting your credit ratio. (#3).

You want to deliberately keep your oldest credit card open, even if you never use it.

You want to always pay the minimums of each loan on time every month.

You want to keep your available credit high, but actually only have balances equalinig

25% or less.

You want to keep your credit inquiries to a minimum. Try for no more than 3 or 4 per

year for any type of loans.

You do these things and your credit score will quickly soar into the 700s.

If you can afford it, negotiate to pay off the old debt and have it REMOVED from your report. Make sure to get it in writing that the creditor will remove the debt from each of the three major agencies before you pay. If the creditor is only going to mark it as paid, there's not much point in paying it.

You should also try to get some kind of credit card and use it. You need current good credit to help build your score up, again.

Unfortunately, once you have legitimate negative items on your credit report, you have to live with them for 3-7 years. But you can get as many bills as possible current, and keep them current for the next few years. Your score won't jump overnight, but you will be building up to a big change.

For you and every other woman reading this: There is a breast and cervical cancer program that covers everything including surgeries and restoration of breasts. Contact local GOOD Cancer Unit and as the social worker, I do not know if this is retroactive but try.

File bankruptcy to get rid of that debt you can never repay, then apply for a credit card, purchase a vehicle on time payments, and rebuild your credit!
Yes, banks will issue you an unsecured credit card after your bankruptcy discharge! Capital One and Orchard Bank just to mention a few of the best. Car loans are like going to the candy store today! They'll give one to anyone regardless of past credit! And yes, at a reasonable intrest rate too! Chase bank does them at 12%! Sounds high but that was actually a going rate for many years!
Word of caution is not to "over extend" yourself during this tansition and pay your bills on time! Try not to JOB hop either!
Don't fall into the trap of these so called "credit repair agencies"! They are a total ripoff and no one can do what they claim! What they do is actually write letters to the credit bureau pointing out descrepencies. If the "creditor" does not answer the claim, the credit bureau must remove it from your credit report by law! Many companies don't answer the letter and therefore sometimes it works. However, you can do the same thing yourself and not pay a so called "repair agency"! Or they call creditors and work out deals that again, you can do yourself!
Hope this sheds some light on the subject for you!
For a "truely" free credit report go to www.annualcreditreport.com you sign up for nothing-you pay nothing-you can use it once a year free!

Try applying for a credit card that allows bad credit . You may have to pay a deposit but in the long run it will help you because the only way you can build your credentials is by proving yourself by having credit and making those monthly payments. Go to Credit One Bank or National Bank or Marin and apply for a credit card (online). You must agree to a credit limit that you can handle and use your card wisely. And which ever credit card you get you must use at least once a month and pay back more than the minimum balance. This will get your credit score moving up.

Also, after working on improving your credit for a little while make sure to pull a 3 in 1 credit report so you have an accurate snapshot of your credit. You can get one of these here for free: http://www.b35t.info/free/3-in-1-credit-report.php

Chrys
pay off all your bills....make sure the credit reports are CORRECT. If you have chargeoffs.make sure they're taken off your credit report if they're old....
try a small credit card ($2500) keep the balance low...
it may take a yr or two. but you can make it work if you can take some time and do everything 'right'...

Working World
call the creditors and make deals, concentrate on paying off one at a time. Have as much proof on file at home of your illness, apply for orchard bank card or some other card to help re-establish credit and make sure that one is paid on time.

First, it would help to know what makes up your score. Here's a breakdown.

Payment history 35%
Amount of debt that's owed 30%
Length of time that credit's been established 15%
Types of credit 10%
Inquiries and New accounts 10%

Now, the biggest killer of a credit score is paying late and having a lot of debt. What you may need to do is to get a copy of your credit report and http://www.annualcreditreport.... to see what and how much you owe.

Once you get your reports look and see how much you owe. The easiest way would be to find the smallest amounts and the ones that are the most recent first. Contact the collectors and negotiate a "payoff for deletion". That's a payoff amount that will clear the debt off your credit report. If you're able to get them to agree to this, it is necessary to get something in writing on their company letterhead before you send them a dime.

You really don't need to go to credit counseling, as that would reflect negatively on your report.

After you've cleared all of your delinquent debt, then review your report to make sure that there isn't any inaccurate information. If it is, then you should immediately dispute that with the bureaus.

If you have a close friend or family member with excellent credit, ask them if they can add you as an authorized user on their credit cards. You do NOT need a card as this would only be for reporting purposes only. Their payment history would be included on your credit report if you're able to be added.

Another thing would be to open ONE credit card. The easiest one to get would be a secured credit card. You would have to put a deposit upfront to secure the same amount in a line of credit, but at least this way you wouldn't be declined and depending on how much you put in the security deposit, YOU control the credit line, instead of the credit card company telling you how much THEY think you should have. The key is simple: make small purchases that can be paid off in full, on time every month. And you may want to increase your credit line by adding to the security deposit every 2 months or so. That way after a year of perfect payment history, you'll get the deposit back with possible interest, and the card will convert into an unsecured one, not to mention with a credit line that you will be happy with.

I have another option that also helps but it takes time. If you're able to get a secured credit card and get up to at least a $1000 credit line, then you're in good shape to do the next option which is open up a certificate of deposit and then take out a collateral loan against it for the same amount. I'll give you an example: Let's say that I opened up a secured card got the deposit up to $2500 before it went unsecured. Well, I'm going to get that deposit back becuase I don't need in anymore. From there, I would open up a certificate of deposit where I do my banking and then take out a signature loan using the certificate of deposit as collateral, kind of the same way that I did with the credit card. Now I would take the proceeds from the loan and put THAT into a savings account to get interest off of that. Then I would pay the monthly payment every month for at least 9 months for it to show on my credit then I would pay it off. Not only have I boosted my score by showing positive payment history on a loan, but I'm still saving money in the process with the Certificate of deposit!

Finally, another thing you can do is to report montly payments like rent, utlilites, insurance, wireless phone, and other bills that don't show up on your credit reports to a reporting agency called PRBC. It helps people build credit by reporting payments to monthly bills that don't show up on credit reports, to give a more accurate picture of your payment history. Current and previous history up to 3 years back can be reported and scored in a report that can be used with your traditional credit reports.

Hopefully, with these steps you can be well on your way to getting your credit back on the right track!
