One that doesn't have an annual fee and the lowest interest rate you can find. Make sure you pay it off on time and in full. Most of my cards I've had since college. Keep them paid in full and they will never cut you. I pay $0.00 in annual fees and $0.00 in interest. Do not spend more than you can pay back in full.
If you plan on traveling, Am Ex is good.
I also like Discover because of the cash back bonus awards.
Get one visa from someplace like Citi, Chase or BOA.
Do not use Capital One, PNB or any of the sub-standard credit banks. If it is a bank with a branch office, they're usually okay.
It is good that you are starting to build your credit hsitory now. be smart about it and you will enjoy good credit rating your whole life.
Trust me. Be good about paying your bills on tme and in full. When it comes time to buy a car or house you will be grateful.
Also do not marry someone unless they have good credit.

The best strategy is to get a rewards credit card, funnel all/most of your normal spending through it, and pay you balance in full every month. That way you build your credit quickly, avoid interest, and earn rewards.

Don't fall into the credit card trap! Get a card through your local, hometown credit union or bank. Make sure they won't raise the limit without your consent, and keep the limit very low ($500, tops). Use only for emergencies. No, pizza at 4am is not an emergency. Many students leave college with bankrupt-causing debt due to credit cards, please be careful and responsible with credit! |

Well, if you think you can handle a credit card, try searching the websites for student credit cards (Mastercard, Visa, American Express, etc.). I'm not saying you can't handle it, but don't get yourself in debt this early in life. My first card was a Visa. However, I would look for a card with an introductory 0% and a low rate to follow. |
