Chase has some great rewards cards. And some even have no interest for a min. of 6 months so that way you could just build up the credit and pay it off each month w/out any interest charges. There is no yearly fee for the one I have. I make it a point not to apply for cards that have a yearly fee. |

I don't think there is a special card that's the best to build your credit. Is it that you don't have any credit or that you need to improve your credit?
The best way to build your credit is by making all of your payments on time! Never, ever miss a payment!!
I like to think that I have fairly good credit, and I did this by starting early. When I was younger (16 or 17) I opened up a savings account and a credit card with my Dad as a cosigner. I did this because he has excellent credit. Then, I opened up another credit card when I was 18 that was just in my name. The best bet is to have 2 credit cards - one with a low interest, and one with good rewards! The other thing that built up my credit was student loans. All of my student loans were in my name, so now when I pay them all back on time - it looks excellent for my credit.
Good luck - the credit company is ALWAYS out to get you, so you need to be highly aware of everything you do. Also, stuff will stay on your credit report for a very, very long time. In the future, it might be used for/against you. |

The best way to build your credit is by consistently paying the monthly statement balance on any credit card. If your credit score is low, you can get a secured credit card where you deposit funds in advance, but it still builds your credit history so that you can get better cards in the future.
So the idea is to get the best rewards card that you can given your current credit situation and then pay it off regularly.
Orchard Bank recently came out with a 2% Cash Back credit card for people with low credit scores. It comes in two flavors:
1. Orchard Bank 2% Back Platinum MasterCard with an annual fee of $0, $39, or $59. (You have to apply to find out what your annual fee is.)
2. Orchard Bank 2% Back Secured MasterCard with an annual fee of $35.
Here's a link for either card:

If you're a college student, then there are some great rewards credit cards like the Citi mtvU card and the Driver's Edge for college students.
If you're not a student and your credit score is not low, then there are many great cards.
An easy way to find which card will give you the most rewards for your spending is to use the calculator tool at http://www.creditcardtuneup.com/ . |

Any card that you pay off diligently is a good card. Having said that, it depends on you and how you spend and payback.
Setting aside that I built my credit up with American Express, I would suggest getting credit/debit card from your bank that allows you to charge things as Visa or Mastercard. This way you will be able to monitor your spending because it is taken out of your account immediately. This will also help you stay out of trouble while showing that you can spend wisely.
I used the American Express card for small things. This was another way for me to build credit slowly and keep me out of trouble. So perhaps, use it only for gas, or purchases under $25. Note that with certain AMEX cards, you have to pay your bill when invoiced. There's no revolving credit. AMEX Blue with cashback is a good one to start with. https://www124.americanexpress.com/cards/loyalty.do?page=bluecash&Card_name=BlueCash&link=CARD_SELECTOR
In general, go for cards with no monthly fees. Also look for the lowest interest rates that won't kill you if you happen to carry a balance. Read the fine print.
CAVEAT: Do not go out and get a ton of credit cards. Even if you don't even use them, agencies do not like to see open lines of credit because it's a potential disaster. A person should only need 2 credit cards at most. An AMEX and/or a VISA or MasterCard.
Don't be tempted to get a lot of cards. The deadly tempation, if poorly managed, may hamper your ability to get loans etc. in the future. |

Name of bank: Bank One, Discover
Type: Visa, Discover.
Yearly fee: None on most
Monthly fee: None on most
Why it will help your credit: These are outstanding companies to be with. They are always offering great rates and ways to help you keep on top of your credit.
My experience: Have cards with both and they are great to me. I pay my balances off every month, and have excellent credit. They have never steered me wrong, but helped me in many different areas (Interest rates, payment options, credit limit, etc...). Good Luck to you! |
