I wish I'd known as a college student what I know now. Here's what you do: You use your credit card just like you'd use cash. Funnel all/most of your normal spending through your credit card(s) and then pay your credit card balance in full each month. That way you:
1. Build your credit quickly.
2. Avoid interest.
3. Earn rewards!
To quickly determine which college student credit card will pay you the most for your normal spending, you can use this rewards calculator:

A couple of the better cards offered to college students are the Citi mtvU card (I wish I could get this one for the 5% back at restaurants, movies, etc.!) and the Citi Driver's Edge for Students card. The calculator will help you figure out which one is better for your spending. |

I recommend the Chase flexible rewards credit card for students. Interest is what you pay if you don't pay your balance in full. If you always pay your balance in full then you do not need to worry about the apr. |

If you have a bank, get a credit card through them. They should give you lower rates and fees than if you went out and just applied for any credit card. If you don't have a bank account, then how do you live like an adult? |

No credit cards are good!! If I were you I wont get one.. Trust me!! But if you really have to make sure the APR is low like 12% or lower.. And no anual fees.. But seriouly I wouldnt get one at all.. |
