Melissa had a very good warning about credit debt to income; I just learned about that one in trying to refinance my mortgage !! And, I'm in AARP!!
Age-related issue; but, to add to warnings: never ever start out w/store cards or gas cards (although some like Shell have great discount/reward advantages); their interest is too high and what if you can't pay it off monthly (by the way; credit companies DON'T LIKE THAT. Experience.). But, you should ALWAYS PAY 2-3x the minimum; or you'll never get out of debt.
My income won't allow me to pay it off monthly; but I try to on certain plans to pay what is required, i.e. some stores (Lowes) have a 12 month interest free deal--IF you buy more than 300.00 worth; I've used it for repairs & landscaping. But, be sure you pay monthly; or it goes to high interest. Sears will mess you up on that plan; don't do it. They are very unreasonable in telling you the in's and out's.
I try to pay quarterly off in full; that way the credit companies like you; you build good credit by paying off quickly; and one card to start IS best if you are new at this.
Income/Debt Ratio is biggest problem; my income changed rapidly and this caught me by surprise !!!
Also, don't use credit unless you must. This took me years to learn; but, like ATM Cards, it isn't available money. You might want a savings account of substantial amount before you start ??
Good luck; and don't spend more than you make.
Also, all deals sound good; but READ THAT SMALL PRINT !!! |

get a small credit line, use the card and pay it off each month or two then after 5 months call and ask for a credit line increase. |

No credit is like having bad credit. Apply for one major credit card. If you can't get a credit card ask around and find out which bank including your own that will let you start a secured credit card with like $300.00 to $500.00 dollars. Make a minimal purchase that would allow you to make payments for one year. Make sure to pay on time. They want to know how you make payments good or bad and that is how they rate your credit. Also start an account at a store that will allow you to make payments like a electronic store. Purchase something small that you would like to have or need. Save up the money first in a savings account and make payments from that account. Go to three different stores and with the credit card you should have a good line of credit. |

Start out small, with one credit card. Do not apply for multiple credit cards at a time.(Trust me on that one) After one year you can apply for another card. Always pay your bills ON TIME. That is the best thing you can do. Do not go over your credit limit. And if you're looking for a good credit score, do not let your credit card balances exceed 50% of what your credit line is. Any creditor will consider you riskier if you have a high debt to credit ratio. |

Apply for store cards and perhaps gas station credit cards. If that doesnt work, get a secured credit card. Also, ask your bank, they might give you student credit cards.
Start paying some bills and putting things in your name, that will help establish a credit report for you.
Good luck |

The best way ask your friends or parents with good credit history to be a co-signer and you will avoid paying high fees and build yuor credit history faster http://credit-land.com/1001/1001_page_13370_32271.php
Besides you can apply for secured credit card. It is one good way to start rebuilding your credit history. Secured credit system works simply: credit card is secured by customer’s deposit account. Customer has to deposit between 100% and 200% of credit. If customer doesn't pay, credit company will take it out of his or her deposit. But it isn’t the only option.
You can search through credit cards for no credit http://credit-land.com/1018/1018_page_13372_32278.php
or garanteed approval credit cards http://ezpreapproval.com/Guaranteed-Approval-Cards-1049223-page.php
Establishing good credit history takes time, sometimes over 18 months, and hard work. You need to prove good solvency and get positive items on your credit report. |

Save your money. Get a store credit card. Only put as much money on the card as what you have saved. Pay the card off.
CUT IT UP!! |

There are credit counseling services that can help with this but some suggestions:
Phone bill, other utility bills. Apartment. Pay regularly and reliably of course. You could take out a small loan at a bank, secured by the money you took out. Then use that money to pay it back. You'll pay a little interest but you'll start getting a credit rating. I'm not sure this is necessary anymore as credit card companies seem anxious to give anyone credit. |
