None really, although normally wages are paid weekly, and a Salary is paid monthly.....Salaries are normally shown as an annual figure....

a wage is the amount of pay per hour earned; e.g., $10/hr; salary is the paid amount over a longer period; e.g., $50K/yr. Although not a defining event, salaries are often exempt from overtime pay, wages are usually paid overtime. Salaries are generally considered to be more of a management track positions for pay vs. more of a body that is more easily replaced.

Not much really. Though a person on salary gets paid the same every week no matter how many hours they work and a person on an hourly wage only gets paid for the hours they work.

A salary is a fixed amount,
wages can alter due to overtime.

Same difference as between 'house' and 'home' I guess. Salary is what you earn. Wages are what you receive physically.

Is there one...possible they mean what your Salary is and what your wages is after you pay your tax??

nuttyred x
Wages your paid for the hours that you actually work = hourly rate.
Salary you re paid an agreed amount per month say, no matter what you work 2 hours or 80 hours.

Wages refers to the pay a worker receives weekly. Manual workers are usually paid wages. For example a factory worker may be paid £7 an hour.

Salary refers to the pay a worker receives monthly or yearly. For example a bank manager may be paid £70,000 a year.

Angela M
Wages are so much per hour that you work. salary is a set rate over the year. Even if you work extra hours, your overall salary is still the same. I turned down a supervisor's position as it was salaried. I prefer to stay on wages, where you get extra for working outwith your normal contracted hours.

Sam B
The terms are often used interchangeably, but convention is that wages are most often based on a per hour rate while salary is based on yearly terms. With many salary positions, you can get paid extra based on an hourly rate for overtime, etc.

salary is moisture-bearing ,wages are moisture-free
