jawsnu7 | What is the fastest way to remove a collection from equifax credit report? |
Im in the process of getting a mortgage and all of a sudden this(collections) pops up on my Equifax credit file. I know it will hurt my score already. I need to know the best way to go about getting it removed. I heard even if you pay it off it will remain as a negative. Any good advice? |

Let me warn you of something.
If you were to pay off this bill, and IF the creditor notifies the credit bureau, your account is changed to "paid". However, it will still show that you had late payments, or that the account was in collections. This is still a negative item on your report, and it will still hurt your score.
Does it make sense to pay off your bill and still have bad credit?
The problem is that the only way you can get a negative item removed is for the creditor to tell them to remove it. There is no other way (except to go through the dispute process and hope the creditor does not respond to the investigation).
What I advise people to do is negotiate with the creditor. Tell them that in exchange for paying off the bill, they must agree IN WRITING to remove all negative information from your credit report.
See the link below for more info. |

1.) Pay it off and attain a receipt from the creditor. 2.) Submit a request online to Equifax at www.equifax.com to update the collection account to a status of "satisfied." They will require documentation, which is what the receipt is for.
It will remain as a collection account on your report, but having it showed to be paid should help your score |

dispute it. Tell them you have no knowledge of the creditor |

If the debt and the collection is legit and recent, you'll have a very tough time getting it removed. |

If it doesnt belong theire you can dispute it and have it removed fairly quickly. Pay it and it will list as satisfied, but other than that thaere is really nothing you can do ....legally. |

you have to file a dispute and they will investigate it, then if thry find it a valid dispute, they will remove it |

you can pay it to begin with
if the mortgage lender knows it's paid it probably won't bother them too much |

Depends what it is. If you don't know what it is, dispute it. If you do know what it is, I would send a letter to the company to validate the debt. If they can't validate it within th 30 days the Fair Credit Reporting Act allows, by law it has to be taken off! |

If collections comes up on your credit report it means you have not paid something. Pay the bill and it will come off your credit report. If you think there has been a mistake you have to have proof and on the equifax website you can dispute your credit report. |

Contact the creditor and agree to pay it in full if they will remove it. |

FIRST ..DO NOT LISTEN to most of these people who haven't a clue! If you pay it will STILL be on your report for 7 years. Contact the collection Agency by letter (NO PHONE CONTACT) offer to pay 25% of the bill if THEY delete it from a 3 credit reporting company, eq, es, tu. Get it in WRITING before you give then one cent. Chances are they have bought the debt for pennies on the dollar..so know that up front...tehy might have only a few dollars in your account...they buy them in bulk. NEVER admit the debt is yours...always call it the alledged debt. If they won't play ball send all 3 CRA'a a letter asking for proof that the debt is your..BY LAW they must give you PROOF..that's what the FCRA say's. If they don that with (30) days...then work again with the collection agency...TRUST me they want some money and these bottom feeders will act if you give them bait......GOOD LUCK |

The quickest way to remove a collection from your report is to contact the original creditor and negotiate settlement. Don't even deal with the collection agency.
You can negotiate removal of derogatory information with the creditor as part of the agreement (And I have helped people do this many times). This will change your derogatory account within thirty days.
Purchase the book "Guaranteed Credit" by Arnold S. Goldstein and refer to sample letter 21a "Creditor Settlement Agreement"
This agreement can be faxed between you and the creditor. |
